Your point is to discredit Obama for trying to distance himself from statements he didn't agree with while not throwing a long standing friend to the wolves? Obama has come out and said this in repsonse to the latest Wright comments:

Obama said his earlier mild reaction came because he gave him the benefit of the doubt, but that evaporated when he saw Wright's speech. Wright's comments may well have severed the relationship.

"He has done great damage, I do not see that relationship being the same," said Obama.

Clearly, Obama HAD some affection for the man and tried not to throw him comletely under the bus before. Now, Wright may have crawled under a bus himself.

Sooner or later Hillary's idiot brother, cousin, neighbor et al will become an issue for her and someone McCain knows, likes or is related to, sat on some board with, had his picture taken with, etc will become an issue for him too. Its all mud slinging. Let's try to find a reason to blame anything we are sensitive about on the candidate of our choice.

your thread title puts words in people's mouths. eg I never "supported" the guy's remarks. I simply stated that he might be speaking for a significant population and that their perception of America may in fact reflect his words.

More to the point, way back when I said this was clearly a lose/lose for BO. No matter *what* he did he would be criticized. If he didn't speak up against the Rev he was giving tacit approval. If he did speak up, he was throwing his long time advisor under the bus.

Politicians do this crap all the time. It is part and parcel of the job.

The bottom line is that one side will overlook the failing of their guy and pounce on the failings of the other guy. And vice versa. Pretty much anything can be spun one way or another. Just depends on which way you lean as to which you're willing to swallow.

Joe, I thought about our exchange of views (another thread) when I was up at VIR last Sunday for the Rolex race. While the national anthem played, I observed that a hush fell over the crowd as the strains drifted up to where we were standing at the time. EVERYONE became quiet, stood at attention, facing the general direction, but only a few placed their hands over their hearts, and another small percentage removed their caps. As I think stated somewhere he isn't a preacher with an important message but a self serving race baiter spouting the usual divisive *****. Unfortunately for the Obama supporters Mr. Wright did expose Mr. Obama as the hypocrite he is. And, I think, seriously hurt him among the white blue collar democrats.

My remarks were about one clip, the one in 2001 ending in "God D--- America".

Back in 2001 there were a lot of preachers saying we had it coming. Screw them. At least with Wright there was a build up with examples which put an interesting twist to it.

The other things Wright has said I never commented on, no other excuse than grandstanding to get a reaction out of people and play off of their fears.

Wright is out of touch with mainstream thoughts and out of touch with Obama's message and platform. The more distance between Wright and Obama the better.

At least this should end the silly talk of Obama taking orders or direction from Wright. At least I hope so, but then again I'm a hopeful guy.
