Well, let's talk about something more pleasant...

XOM was trading at about $35/share five years ago...closed today at about $90/share.

HAL was trading at about $12/share five years ago...closed today at about $45/share (and let's not forget the 2:1 split in '06).

If those sailors' mission wasn't accomplished, then what was their ship doing in San Diego?

I’m also surprised no one mentioned the news arcticle on this one:

White House admits fault on 'Mission Accomplished' banner
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080501/ap_on_go_pr_wh/bush_mission_accomplished;_ylt=Asu.ZbixDqOcuwMp.qE 9LtgD5gcF

They’re trying to spin it as meaning the mission of the particular ship that GWB was standing on at the time, not the entire mission of the war:

Quote:
President Bush is well aware that the banner should have been much more specific and said `mission accomplished' for these sailors who are on this ship on their mission," White House press secretary Dana Perino said Wednesday.
On the other hand, during that speech, GWB said:

Quote:
"Major combat operations in Iraq have ended," Bush said at the time. "The battle of Iraq is one victory in a war on terror that began on Sept. 11, 2001, and still goes on."
To me, it seems like he declared victory in Iraq at that time (5 years ago), thus connecting the “mission accomplished” banner with the war.

George Bush had a huge accomplishment today.

he is the only President in U.S. history to have a 70% disapproval rating, the highest ever recorded.

Nixon's disapproval rating in August 1974 was 66%.

Rather than scrap it, they decided to keep using that aircraft carrier after they got back to San Diego. WTF were they thinking, using a carrier more than once.

His low approval ratings are only surpassed by those of our current Congress.

What, to note that our President is bad, but our Legislature is worse?

hey fella's, when you can find another ship with a big banner on it that says Mission Accomplished when their mission is accomplished, you let us know, K?

otherwise, you just seem like really naive pawns of Bush & Co. Marketing, 521 Madison Avenue, 27th floor.
