What kind of bug is this?

I came home today and found these things all over. They're about a half inch long. (the weather here is in the 60-70's during the day)

I have no idea, but I saw one without the orange in my dads hanger a week ago. I put a little water near it and the thing found it and drank it all up. Kinda reminds me of the larva that Khan used in Star Trek II, The Wrath of Khan.

And you fed it? Did you not watch what those things do?

I believe this is a juvenile Ladybug before it morphs into the round shape.

Damnit Dave, Now my ears will be itching for hours. That scene in Wrath of Khan bugs the poop outta me every time I see or think about it.

Put it in a mason jar with holes in the lid.

Put some water and leaves in there and see what happens.

OK, I looked up ladybug larvae and was shocked! Amazing how they morph.

The one I saw was huge (length of a quarter) and had big pincers. Argh, now my ears are itching!

Yep, as stated, that's one of the phases of a lady bug.

Thats pretty cool! My daughter found one of those in her playhouse the other day. I tried looking up what it was on the net and couldn't find anything. Wow! I guess you are never to old to learn something new.
Lady bug larva.....who would have thunk it?

ROFL...I saw that scene when ST:TROK first came out on VHS. I must've been 9 or 10...and I was VERY freaked out.

Now I enjoy putting it on the TV and watching my wife squirm during that scene.
