I feel bad for her. That guy should not be walking thru the pit boxes as is they were a pedestrian area while the pits were hot. It sounds like he will be ok so that is good news.

Another reason to fully limit access to pit road. I hate Indy's pit road and it's policies. But money makes the policies.

Sports anchor on the local news made the comment last night, "Did you see her checking her makeup in the mirror right before she hit him?"

The guys on the open-wheel forums are absolutely crucifying her. . .

Personally I think DP is a decent enough driver. Certainly not up to the level of her hype, but decent. I don't know whether she'd have a ride if she weren't a woman, especially with a slew of excellent, talented drivers from Champ Car today that are stuck languishing without a ride. Personally I think virtually any of the CC guys could hand her ass to her in a race. But FWIW I do think she's talented, but she's also tremendously overrated. She's a pet project of Tony George - a token woman driver who is only in the position she's in because (1) she's a woman and (2) she puts butts in the seats of Tony George's crapwagon league. Because of THAT, and because I completely despise FTG and the way IRL has dismantled and ruined open-wheel racing in this country, I have a hard time supporting her. She's part of the "wrong team", and because of that I can't get on her bandwagon.

Looking at the video, it looks like there is blame to share. It certainly looks like she makes no attempt to avoid the guy, but also (as has been correctly said), the guy had no business being there. Pit lanes are dangerous places and you have to have your wits about you at ALL times, whether the track is hot or not.

I feel badly for the guy that got injured and hope he makes it, but OTOH if this incident helps to undermine Tony George and his marketing efforts involving his token woman race car driver, good. Anything that helps undermine FTG/IRL is good for open-wheel racing in general.

She is no different than any other number of male drivers who "bought" their ride. This is all being a big deal because she is a woman. If a guy had hit the guy in pit lane, nary a blip on the radar.

She *won* a freakin' race. Most drivers NEVER do that. Even some very "highly rated" ones.

The sportscaster should be strapped behind the wheel and sent out for a hot lap. Then after he changes his underwear, compare his times. Just another "angry guy." Can you guys see why some women become more towards the feminist side of things? If you had to put up with crapass comments like that you'd go militant too...

Here's the video. My opinion: his fault.

farking moron has no business being in the pit box when the area is hot. Whenever I'm in a hot pit I'm constantly looking to see what's around and what might be coming.

My wife hears that stuff every day. If the sportscaster made a comment like that getting on her plane, he might find himself walking to his destination.

The guy saw her coming and misjudged her path into the pits. He needs to make a public statement that it was his his fault. He should have done that immediately.

You don't think Tony George's guys are over there "persuading" the guy to do exactly this right now?

I bet there's some payola that changes hands between FTG and Mr. Buckman so IRL can continue putting DP on a pedestal.

Live by the sword die by the sword.
She is famous because she's a woman driving a race car, not because she's a race car driver.
All that un-earned publicity made her career and made her rich and it's about time she got some negative publicity to even it out.
Let's see how she handles the paparazzi in her face.

From what I heard, he was walking down pit lane like that because it was REALLY packed behind the pits due to a combination of a 2-day rain delay and all the sponsors wanting to give their VIP's exposure to the pits.

When I crewed at the 24 hr in Daytona, I was amazed at the number of moronic "VIP's" that were blocking our access to our pits (the lane behind the pits) while we were working, all the while giving us attitude when we tried to get around them. We even had ditzy chicks smoking right beside the fuel pigs with 110 gallons of race gas in them, and were all pissy when we told them to put them out.

I think THIS is the real problem... but it's probably not going to be dealt with or go away any time soon.
