He was drinking.
He was speeding.
He was racing.
He caused his friend to spend the rest of his life as a cucumber.
He has multiple prior speeding tickets.

Unintentional? When does that matter? GMAFB

And you don't speed in your porsche?

Get real.

He should have put more thought into the long term repercussions of his decisions.

Everyone should.

Not wearing the seatbelt in a 600HP car piloted by a 17yo is immensely stupid.

Plain and simple.

I don't speed in a 600hp Porsche.
I don't street race.
I don't drink and drive.
I don't let others ride w/o buckling up.
I don't have multiple tickets at 18 years old.

You get real.

This is the car:

looks like the impact was on the drivers side.

JeremyD 05-12-2008 06:41 PM

Im not sure I'd get in a 650hp car with a 17 year old driving.

SO IOW, yes, you speed.

Oh, i'm more than not sure. No way in hell i'd get into it unless the kid was a racing prodigy of some sort. Even still, getting into it and not wearing a seat belt is an act so stupid that it boggles the mind anyone could be that dumb.

URY914 05-13-2008 04:24 AM

So what if I go over the speed limit? I don't go 100 mph on a city street.

BTW, we all speed. So do you.

onewhippedpuppy 05-13-2008 04:31 AM

"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone".

So if you've never sped, never street raced, never driven recklessly, and never gone without a seatbelt, rant away. If you have, shut your hypocritical mouth. I'd bet that 99% of us have done something stupid in a car, and most of us got away with it. ESPECIALLY as a teenager. It was stupid all around, but the kid is going to JAIL.

i wouldn't get into ANY car with a 17yr old driving. there is not a more ignorant, dumb-assed, foolish creature walking this earth than a 17yr old boy.

adding a 600hp car to the mix is a mistake i hope other parents will take note of. particularly those who can't use 'money' as an excuse not to give jonny a vette or supra or whatever when he's that young.

if my son had mulitple tickets at 17 he'd be walking. (i HOPE i can live up to that statement when the time comes).

lastly, i am surely glad i was never given the opportunity to drive such a car at that age.

onewhippedpuppy 05-13-2008 05:29 AM

If I had a 600 HP Supra at 17, I wouldn't be here. I got in enough trouble in a '79 Chevy truck and a '87 Nissan 200SX.

I remember cruising at 115 in my Plymouth Turismo in high school going up to Great America. (Well I think it was 115, the speedometer markings stopped at 85 but was pointing straight down.) I also used to take corners on two wheels in that car. I remember racing a friend from Naperville to Downer's Grove down 75th street through traffic. I remember dragracing the same friend in Bolingbrook (me in my Plymouth, him in his Jetta).

I'm pretty lucky to be alive.

onewhippedpuppy 05-13-2008 06:04 AM

I don't know how many times I hit the speed limiter (110) in my 240SX.
I totalled 4 cars in my first two years of driving.
I hit numerous stationary objects while driving too fast.
I used to do e-brake 180s in intersections.
I used to play car tag with friends.
I used to have fireworks wars while driving.

I remember before I was 18 and had a midnight curfew. On the weekends, typically a number of us would stay at someone's house. Normally with a few minutes to spare, we'd head towards wherever we planned to stay. This, of course, turned into a race. I still remember a long stretch of straight 4 lane city street (40 MPH). At the end of this long stretch was a 4-way stop. Typically, whoever touched their brakes at the 4 way stop lost the race home. Not much traffic at 12, but still stupid as hell.

Basically, I was a dumbass, and probably should be dead or in jail.

Precisely.

I am not going to rant and rave about the irresponsibility of some kid for doing what i've done many times, which is break the law for my own personal amusement.

Sure, i don't have a 600hp car, but i have had MANY "spirited drives" in my 325hp Porsche on public roads. I've just never crashed it. I once had a Philly cop tell me that he'd never seen a vehicle with more than 2 wheels travelling at the speed he saw me go by him. "You were a blur" i believe he told me. 140mph will give that effect.

URY914 05-13-2008 06:24 AM

Yes he is going to jail, but I don't think he is going for a long enough time.

This kid will be back in the news for doing something stupid. Just watch.

I disagree.

I think there is a good chance that this experience will change his life. Put him on the "straight and narrow" if you will. He certainly acted the part of being contrite during the trial. If that is the case, then the punishment is "just right".

If, however, he does something like this again, I have no problem with throwing the book at him. But I think everyone deserves a chance to learn from their mistakes. One chance.

onewhippedpuppy 05-13-2008 06:33 AM

He's spending time in jail and permanently disabled a friend. I doubt he'll just blow it off.

asphaltgambler 05-13-2008 06:37 AM

So I wonder if the Hulksters' divorce was calculated or really the result of his aledged cheating ?

Mule 05-13-2008 06:44 AM

I'm betting calculated.

How long before Brooke show up doing porn?

Hawktel 05-13-2008 06:55 AM

Dear Nick, Best wishes in the Slammer.

P.S. Don't drop the soap!
