Timeless products that you forgot how great they are...
Got caught several miles from home in a sudden deluge of a rain storm. Flipped the wiper stalk, heard a disconsonant pop, and nada with the wipers. Cursory check of the fuses and wiring and figured the switch broke internally.
Popped into an Autozone and picked up a bottle of Rain-X. Hadn't used any in years. AMAZING how well ths stuff works. Able to drive the interstate at 80+ in heavy rain with no wipers. |

I religiously RainX each of my vehicles windows once a month. The visibility it allows for in bad weather is simply amazing.
I was caught in a BAD, sudden downpour coming back from the UP a few years ago. It was so bad that I had to stop in mid-lane because I could no longer see the marking on the road. With RainX, I was able to clearly see that there was 1-2 inches of moving water on the pavement and tell the difference between interstate and ditch. When the rain subsided (after a minute or two) I found that I was half in the right lane and half in the should, pointed at the ditch at a 45ş angle. Without RainX I would not have been able to see ANYTHING and would have likely ended up in a corn field.

Now that I think of it, Rain-X made a product for the inside of windshields that prevented fogging. Used to use it on my race car for wet events since it had no wipers or defogger.

Yep, every car I own gets rainx once a year at the minimum, I never have to use the wipers. Occasionally I turn them on and realize I can't see because of what's not on the windshield, it's the spray hanging in the air

They make a rain-x that you put in your windshield washer fluid. You never have to "apply" the rain-x as long as you occasionally wash your windshield with the squirters. Works great.

Is that stuff really that good? I have a bottle of it in the garage, but never got around to putting it on. I am very adamant about my windshield being as clear as possible. I absolutely hate when it has smudges on it.

Pretty amazing stuff. Apply as directed on a dry wind shield and the water just beads up and flies off. You'll be amazed.

I've put some simple Turtle wax on my windshield and it does pretty much the same thing.

A little Napalm on the windsheild does wonders for melting the ice as well. Have not tried it in the washer fluid yet.

Don't the wipers stick to it?

It depends on the brand of wipers I've found. Bosch tends to stick IMO. RainX brand do not.

I've never had any experience with wipers acting funny on the windshield because of rain-x.
Rain-x rocks. If you've got it, use it.
