10AM and drinking

Well, not me. But the hotel internet acces only works in the bar area and I'm waiting for my bags. 2 others are already enjoying a beer.

Romania

Sounds like you are doing the same thing I am. Heading for the terminal in 5 hours for a 26 hour flight home...

red-beard, nothing wrong with that .... my family had, for over 25 years, a small bar near Barcelona, is (was?) usual to have a 'carajillo' (espresso with brandy, anisette, whiskey, etc.) or a 'barrecha' (brandy with anisette) before starting work (7 AM) and then have your breakfast (sandwich usually) with beer or wine plus another 'carajillo' (or two)

when i used to work 3rd shift some co-workers and i would always head to a local pub which served breakfast from 6am-noon, then closed and re-opened in the evening for the "hip" bar crowd (it was a hole in the wall but a great place).....
we'd be surrounded by people eating omlets while we were sharing a pitcher of brew....we always got funny looks but just played it off that we worked for the city (we didn't work for the city)

Mine is an immigrant Italian neighborhood - an expresso or cappachino with a little "something" in it is popular around the holidays.

My grandpa was never with out his coffee cup in the morning. Funny thing is, he didn't drink coffee.

You can't drink all day if you don't start in the morning.

I love that first coffee on a rainy Sunday morning with a liberal dose of Baileys!

Then the second, and the third.....

I like coffee with a little brandy. Had a patient today who lived in Germany for a long time, said they looked at you funny if you asked for a glass of water, rather than beer, despite the time of day. Recalled a father and his 8 yo son at a park before noon, both with large schooners of beer.

I'm a bit more prudish. I don't hit my coffee with brandy before 3:30 in the afternoon.

Well, it is not something you see regularly in the states, people taking a 10 minute smoking break from hanging sheetrock in a hotel, and they have a beer at the hotel lounge, at 10 am.

We did the same thing, except swilling beer on the golf course at 7am. Weekdays, after our night shift, a co-worker and I would almost always pair up with a couple of retirees to make a foursome. We'd down a 12-pack by the turn and buying more for the back nine. Beer didn't help my game, but it couldn't hurt it either.

We just got back yesterday from a week's vacation in Punta Cana, where at 10am the resort bars opened and waiters started circulating the pool area with trays full of the "Drink of the Day".

Not being one to go against local custom, I felt obligated to comply. Every day, all last week. Lots of Rum. Bloody Marys at the end of the week, however. I think it's time for the Betty Ford Clinic.
