I like being called a commie, democRAT, tree-hugger.

S. is probably a very nice guy.

Some of the nastiest, most vitriolic, hateful posters on this forum are also, in person, real nice guys. Quite fankly, honestly and candidly, I find that very frightening.

Yes, Wayne leans in the conservative direction. I've got a LOT of respect for Wayne. I've been on this site for many years now, and I think sometimes he respects me. At least, in my imagination he does.

Nostatic leans left. Apparently, he lacks the benefit of a Cambridge education.

When a four year-old defends his behavior by comparing it with that of a three year-old, I smile and dismiss it. When adults defend their immaturity by pointing to greater immaturity elsewhere, I don't even smile.

I keep thinking we can have an informative, respectful ideological discussion here. For years I've thought this. But then, I also imagine that humans can switch from playing the aggression game to playing the cooperation game. See how silly I really am?

scottmandue 05-20-2008 03:19 PM

I had this great introspective post going on showing the true path to peace and enlightenment... and some how it got lost in cyberspace...

I think Nostatic sensed it coming and zapped it... POOPYHEAD!

But anyhoo, this is an open Internet form... I don't see how you can blame Wayne for what gets posted here.

If you don't like it here why not just stick to posting on the tech forms?

Besides that, it is the Internet.. don't take it too seriously.

First of all I want to thank S for increasing my vocabulary today ( had to look up xenophobia hehehe).
This might be a stupid question but, who said you have to look in Off Topic,, things in the tech area are pretty tame and educational.. OT is strickly mind masturbation as far as I"m concerned

scottmandue 05-20-2008 03:34 PM

You said masturbation...

You know what? Every time a thread gets all crazy, guys are calling each other names, DemocRAT, ConservaTARD, etc. I find myself all pissed off etc, I am reminded that we ALL want the same damn thing. At least mostly so.

We want personal success despite our different ways of defining it. We love our Wives, our children more than anything. We love our dogs, cats, birds and fish. Our Porsches. We LOVE our country. We want economic health for country, state and city. Good jobs, to be healthy. We don't want ours or anybody else's sons & daughters dying in wars or on the street corner. Yet we differ on how to go about accomplishing these goals and all we can do is call each other names for espousing a different path?

It really gets me down sometimes. I want the same things you want guys but you want to knock me on my ass on the playground. You want to post insulting pictures of people I am hoping are smarter than I am at figuring a way through some of these problems.

I guess I'll never get it.

Tobra 05-20-2008 03:49 PM

Conservatard, had not heard that one, is that Mule?

People seem to take this stuff too seriously, and emotions take over. No real consequences for anything you say, people become a bit uninhibited. Supes, why is it frightening to you? It is not even surprising to me.

How much could this fellow have been around and be offended? 300 posts in 5 years. Must have a better real life than the rest of us.

I learned years and years ago that arguing on the Internet was a pretty fruitless endeavor. I enjoy hearing what others have to say about important, and not so important topics. Reading an editorial or news report gives you one thing, but I value opinions of others on those tidbits of data or opinion. My love of Porsches has brought me here to discussions with some really intelligent people. Like I said earlier, most boards are cesspools...

In the end, you can't really get yourself worked up over anything anyone says or you'll just be spitting venom at a monitor.

Funny. I just came back from a long walk in the woods and was thinking the same thing. There are people on this board whose political views are completely opposite mine (as far as I can tell) but whose views I nevertheless respect because they're mature and measured and well argued.

Then there are a handful of regulars who are complete dildos. We all know who they are. Every thread on which they post immediately deteriorates in to a peeing match, and they revel in it. They spew hate, and racism and sexism, and spoil many an otherwise interesting discussion with childish vitriol. My guess is that a couple of them are serious sociopaths.

It's of course up to Wayne and the moderators to decide how to run this board. Truth is though there is this small number of yahoos (no more than 4 or 6 - however you count them) whose contribution to the discussions here are completely overshadowed by the hatred that they spread, and the constant belligerence and swagger they bring to every discussion. I sure as heck know what I'd do with them if this were my board. This is not a freedom of speech issue either: it's just a question of tact and decorum, and not constantly devaluing the currency. Just throw the bums out.

Quote of the year. See, if left PPOT I'd miss stuff like this.

Of course, anyone who's a real Porsche enthusiast and doesn't like these discussions probably belongs on the technical forum. We don't talk about Porsches much over here.

The great thing about this BBS (and life in general) is if you don't take it too seriously you might really enjoy it.

I myself find Tabs rather a breath of fresh air and also don't agree with half of what he says. That's the fun thing about it. If it wasn't for Tabs and a few of the boys the moderator police just might come looking for you instead.

Dottore 05-20-2008 04:14 PM

For the record: I don't include Tabs or you Rick, among the dildos. On the contrary.

The Gaijin 05-20-2008 04:17 PM

Actually - low brow political speech and other unseemly behaviors have a long history in our young Republic.

Just the way it has been since the Boston Tea Party. We can't dress as Indians (I mean indigenous native Americans), drink whiskey and bust up the property of the Crown - but we can visit here and vent a little.

And once in a while buy and oil filter or something..

No worries. I take most insults here as a badge of honor, creative insults even more so.SmileWavy

you would, you tempestuous cheeseweasel

rammstein 05-20-2008 04:35 PM

Am I a dildo?

Oh NO!!! I've lost my inner monologue...

kstar 05-20-2008 04:39 PM

So PPOT isn't a comfy bubble protected from all of the ugliness of real life?

:(

I've lost my last bit of innocence.

I agree and I do enjoy a daily visit, but I agree with Dottore: interesting evenings out are always much more enjoyable when there is someone on hand to throw the one or two properly offensive numbskulls out on their arses.

I'm still piecing this together, but I think Ted and Rick just got called pussies in the most subtle way possible.

daepp 05-20-2008 05:12 PM

Wayne's a Conservative??? I find him solidly in the middle.

I, otoh, am solidly on the right!

Jeff Alton 05-20-2008 05:14 PM

Haven't I read threads with the same title in both the classifieds and the tech forum??
