My 60-gallon Craftsman Pro has a "Certified by DeVilbiss.....Made in U.S.A....2002" metal plaque riveted/stamped on it. It is painted over and I think it was meant for the consumer to NOT see the Devilbiss name. I bought it, I think in 2004.
Also, it has the "Made in USA" sticker. Is this not called 'branding': you buy stuff from Manufacturer A, you and he agree that you can slap your label on it, and bingo....everyone is happy Great news on your jack. It's been a few year since I've dealt with Sears but, in the past all I had to give them was my address and the computer brought up a history of everything purchased from appliances to tools if it was a credit transaction, = no receipt needed. I thought that was pretty kewl. You didn't say if these were cash purchases or not?
I do recall seeing a problem with compressor pressure switches (and simple repairs) related to the "do not touch this screw ever" post somewhere in my wandering searches. Have you tried that? Given that.. unfortunately nothing is as it was! I too remember the wonderland that Sears was. Anyone else remember the popcorn popper?

Oh lord the DeVilbiss name means that it was built in Toledo!
Almost all Jeeps are built in Toledo, Ohio. Along with most of the glass used in the United States. Calphalon, the high end pots and pans company has a plant in Toledo. Get the new jack from Sears, keep the box and return the old one. If they b_itch tell them to please call this 1-800 number (just make one up) I mean after all they will just make up crap too just to waste your time. What a bunch of BS. I like Sears there parking lot never has any cars in it so I park the 911 there when I go to the mall. Thanks Sears!!!!!!

In 1977, I paid $150 for a very used Craftsman air compressor. After 30 years, I can't get it to die. They built them very well in the old days. I've even bought a larger older craftsman and have at one of my houses in anticipation the old one will crap out.....
All I've done is put on a new cord, add oil and drain off the water....It'll never die. BUT, my contractor friends tell me they can't get a new compressor to last one season, no matter what the brand???????

Worked at Sears when I was going to college. When ever some one came in that wasn't satisfied I just replaced it with a new one. What the hell did I care, if they were unhappy I wasn't getting paid enough to argue with them. People would come in with things ten years old and I would replace it with a new one. My manager said just keep everyone happy.

Funny story...
I went to pick up my air compressor, after $114 in repairs today. As I'm standing around in the waiting area, I notice a wall with product safety recalls. A picture of my broken floor jack leaps out at me from the wall. Apparently other people were have problems with the universal joint self-destructing and the hydraulic cylinder dying. Fortunately, when mine went I was in the process of jacking up my car and had the wheels on. As it spewed hydraulic fluid it gently lowered the car back down to the ground... So after getting my air compressor, I ran back home and got my floor jack. As I didn't have a receipt, they referred me to the same jackass who refused to help me before. He said to me: "See, you got it replaced anyways!" "No help from you" was my response. Anyway, the numbers on my jack did not exactly match those on the recall. Mine was model 50240. The recall covered model 50242. The difference? The models are identical in all ways except that 50242 has LED lights on in. Anyways, Jackass Mike didn't dare give me $h!t about that. I picked out a brand new floor jack--an 8 ton all steel model to replace my 1.5 ton steel/aluminum one.  I swear the thing weighs 120 pounds.
