Looks great. Trekkor, what did you do along the edge to the hearth? Did you caulk or what?

Yep!
He's a good boy. I felt bad for him. I played with him now and then. His favorite was to bite and chase the water stream from the hose. KT

The tile is set over concrete slab and the hearth is some sort of cast material so there isn't any movement. The tiles are cut very tight and just grouted. Because all of the interior walls are plastered the homeowners wanted to leave the baseboard in place to avoid wall damage. Normally the new base goes over the tile. I had to cut to all the base on the job. Can you tell? ![]() The only sanded caulking is at the exterior doors. The tile is 16x16 antiqued travertine. KT

Nice job. I like the way you distributed the darker tiles.

Thanks! I love my job.
The tiles are spaced 1/8" apart. The edges are slightly beveled and create an irregular and unique joint 3/16"-1/4" wide. The material is very interesting as it is made up of ancient/fossilized seabed. Corals and shells throughout. I even found an impression of a leaf. KT

My knees hurt looking at it!! I do tile jobs too and no matter what knee pads I have they aren't good enough. I try to limit to 1 to 2 jobs every two weeks but I guess I probably wouldn't turn down a job if it came up.

Have done tile twice and not sure if I ever want to do it again. Lots of work but really nice results.
Great job!

nice work. My house came with a similar floor downstairs. Make sure to seal the grout if you have not already; this gets pretty dirty..

Yep, sealed the last little bit today and took these pictures.
The entire installation gets sealed, not just the grout. We have some little sayings in tile: "You can make a bad tile job look OK with a good grout job. And, you can make a great tile job look awful with a bad grout job". "Grout covers a multitude of sins". "Grout... Grout... Let it all out!" "When in doubt...grout." KT ![]()

From those shots the tile looks 12x12. I would have gone for a larger 18 or 20" tile - perhaps laid on a diagonal...but that can get busy looking too. Nice work though. Heavy sealer and some rugs to soften it. Todd is right the furniture is butt ugly. Time for another sake on the rocks...
