Age gap? What is too young for a guy in his late 30's?

I'm 36, I shouldn't expect to develop a "serious" relationship with any woman under 25.

If you're 40? 27.
If you're 50? 32.


Fun and games? half your age, or 18, whichever is lower and at least 18.

If she is over 21...she is old enough to make her own decisions. If she will have you...consider yourself lucky.

On the other hand....most marriages I have seen with a large age difference do not seem to go well. After a decade or two...there is little in common and it is like she is babysitting her grandpa instead of having fun.

I some how doubt your going to have much to talk about with a girl under 21. If you want a relationship, I'm thinking later 20's. I'm 38, and our nanny is 21. I talk to her all the time. She's a good kid, but KID is the operative word here.

I'm sure shagging a younger gal would be fun, just don't make a god damn mess of it, yes?

Good points made, and I agree with most of them. With her the age gap is the first thing people notice and I think make judgement based on that alone.

I think that as long as both parties are adults it is morally OK, but you cannot ignore the cultural implications and frankly just the awkwardness of being in a relationship w/ someone who would be mistaken for your child. (Or grandchild, in some cases out here in Hollywood).

Age is nothing more than a way to continue a fixation with our need to try and control time. Just look at the relationship without the numbers involved (yours and hers) and see how it looks, you will find your answer there.

I read somewhere...(maybe it was here as Gogar mentioned) that the "rule" is:

1/2 your age and add 7.

So a guy who is 38 can go as low as 25.

Sound good? I mentioned this to a friend of mine recently and he was very pleased that 25 year olds were still in his range.

Now...what if you were 90? then 52 year olds are fair game and within the rules.


Seriously though...I think it depends on your mentality and how your jive together...get along etc. If you are comfortable then go with it and have fun. We only live once, for a short time....and never let anyone else dictate what you should or should not do with your life, as long as what you are doing is legal and moral.

When I was 33, I dated a 23 yr old. At the very beginning, my previous GF wanted to get back together and we hooked up a few times. And then I had to make the decision, 23 yr old or 37 yr old.

I should have opted for neither!

FWIW, my wife is 13 years younger than I am. While there are some good guidelines to follow, there is a lot more to "age" than a number.
