To be honest, the Mason case has always confused me.

Either Mason was a cold blooded manipulator who brainwashed people into doing the things he wanted done...

or..

The people were cognizant of their actions and so he was a malevolent presence, but they are responsible for what they did.

I don't care if they all got shanked in the showers tomorrow, but I don't see how we got it both ways on this.

I actually am very disappointed in our citizens behind bars that didn't clear this mess up long ago.

To be quite honest I didn't know much about the specifics of the case other than the big picture (it was a little before my time). Manson orders his cult to kill random people. Pregnant Sharon Tate is among the victims .

Although I never thought Atkins deserved any kind of mercy for her actions, after reading this article in the LA Weekly: http://tinyurl.com/3pq23h , I realized what a cold blooded b***h she is and how she should be rotting away in her prison cell and not resting in a "comfortable" hospital bed!
