Video editing question - merge 2 into side by side?

Wife and I went out to autocross today. Naturally, I had the in-car recorder running.
I got the wife to shoot some external video with our camera, as well.

I'm wondering if there's any way to merge the two into one file so they side side by side while playing. Car view + outside view.

Anyone know if this is possible?

Premiere is cross platform but you like FinalCut it's more editor than the average Joe requires.
