The Opal Manta GT was a great looking car, as this car is. They handled good and had great mileage.

I owned a GT that had been properly restored/painted in Hawaii (then the owner couldn't afford to have it shipped home from NY and I got it for a song).

Solidly built, OK power, good handling (but the steering is very heavy). You've got to periodically lube/adjust the headlight lever/cable/mechanisms. I agree with the earlier poster's comment on the Weber, it made a lot of difference.

I sold mine 5 years back, and parts were still available, but quality body stuff was getting hard to find. I liked owning it, but I don't miss it. I wouldn't buy another, but I wouldn't tell anybody making an informed decision not to, either.

I thought the footwells were cavernous... I'm 6'5" and fit fine.

A number of people liken them to the SAAB Sonnet. Never having owned a Sonnet, I can't tell you anything other than the GT also has a polarizing effect on peoples' opinions -- they love the body style or hate it.

I thought of them as Opel's Karmann Ghia.

The bodies were built in France by ??????

Opel Kadett running gear.

The Opel Manta (much larger w/ 2 door coupe w/ a real rear seat) actually handled better.

Just don't tell a German you have an Opel Manta or you'll be the butt of their jokes. To Germans, Manta drivers (Manta Fahrer) are the equivalent of gold chained Vette drivers. At least they were in the early 90's.
