Someone once observed that behaviour which makes no sense from a survival standpoint is designed to improve mating odds. For example: Peacocks, which should basically be drab and boring, but which flash these massive fans of bright colors to impress the ladies. I see this sort of nonsense, and I wonder if it actually improves their odds of reproducing?

Who is 'they'? What a bunch of player haters. If he put his watch in the tailpipe and took a picture of it, would that make it better?

At least the engine is in a reasonable location and the HVAC likely works.
