We lost the big guy 2 weeks ago...a 14yo Malamute mix. Per the vet's age/weight ratio chart, Bart's age was the equivalent of 115 human years. When he was younger, all the vets said he wouldn't last much past 8. At the end he was down to 110lbs. In his heyday, he was 140lbs of muscle. We've had him since our daughter was in 6th grade. She's 25 now. I still see his big butt out of the corner of my eye and hear his old man bark in the distance.

Fortunately, we still have the little girl...a 2yo Lab.

So true.

I've heard if you have multiple pets and you put one down that you should have the others see their dead companion so they know they're gone. Any thoughts on this?

The little $hit head, I mean my lovely little boy I posted the picture of...

I put a bell on him not because he is a hunter but he does like to hide from me when it is time to come inside so i belled him thinking it would make him easier to find.

The little ba$tard learned how to move around the bushes ninja style without ringing the bell.

Some rules my dog follows:

1. I will lick your face. Morning, noon & night.
2. I will lick your hand...You don't tell me to stop, I'll stop when I want to.

Here's my 6-month old Pekingese.

Good thread. I have been a champion of animals all of my adult life. I say that because as a youth, I was uneducated and careless. My mother grew up on a farm and they regularly used animals and ate them. My dad was a city boy who had horses.

But, when I shed my training wheels and got out into the world, I realized how poorly peole treat their pets. Visiting up to 100 houses a year as a contractor reinforced that big time. Many times have I turned in reports of animal abuse. Over in Boulder City NV, they take that pretty seriously. I turned in a report of a dog chained in the sun with no shade and not much dirty water. The animal control removed the dog in one day, no warning, and I'm sure not to put down.
