are we talking about image or the music...

I could be wrong here...but I dont think I am...to paraphrase a line from "Walk the Line": People Listen with their Eyes.

Is it the image that you hate from a band/artist.... or the actual music?

Or is it some kind of idea associated with the band that you hate?

Or is it the fact that some bands are simply overplayed?

I mean...how can anyone HATE the Beatles music? They did so much, were so innovative...how can you hate every song? I dont get it...

I mean, even if you strip down the Beatles Melodies and played and sung them on the piano by youself...I would think that you would at least like how they sounded....and if you had any music sense at all, could appreciate the melody and its relationship to the chords.

(just using the Beatles as an example, not picking on anyone here in particular)

Note on a page vs. image of the artist.

This kind of music "discussion" really frustrates me and pisses me off...

So Lets boil it down...are the bands where you HATE ever Fkin song that they ever did?

i can think of a couple but not many really....very very few. I guess I find good in most music in some way, even if I think it sucks I usually can find something that I like.

Styx ain't far behind.
see...this is a good example, as a musician I can appreciate parts of a few of their songs "Mr. Roboto" or "too much time on my hands" or "lady when your with me im smiling"

i mean...those arent my favorite songs, and I dont own any Styx albums or have any of their songs on my Ipod....but I can see how people like them... there is melody there...even though I dont really like the singer's tone.

As far as hating Emo, how the hell can someone hate Evanescence?[/
Is Evanescencse actually "emo"? I thought that was a term for those boy-punk-rocker-sugar-pop-pseudo-angst type bands that we hear all the time "Jimmy eats... whatever" and all that crap....

Now there is a genre that I certainly do not enjoy at all, in fact I fkin hate it...

but is Evanescense more like psuedo-pop-metal stuff? I dont like it much but I can see how people could like it.

You have no idea what an emo band is if you think Jimmy Eat World is part of that genre. Go listen to Taking Back Sunday if you want to find out emo really is.

Not a fan of catchy songs that changed the world?

I wouldn't say it "pisses me off", but I find it to be based upon negativity and pointless. I suspect many get sick of a single OVERPLAYED song (ala REO's "Keep on Lovin' You"), but I dare say that most would have no exposure to a band (or artist's) complete "body of work". I'm an 'ole fart, so don't "get" rap, etc. but I would NEVER knock an artist...it's purely subjective. I suspect "mainsteam radio" (something that I haven't listened to in 20+ years) has a lot to do with it.

Styx kicks azz...Renegade is one of the cooler rock songs ever written.

Sure, they were girlie men, but some of their stuff definitely rocked hard.

I thought Evanescence was emo cause you hear people making all kinds of emo hatin' comments on Ev videos on youtube.

If it wasn't 9AM i'd definitely go to youtube and crank Renegade up. :)

I wouldn't say I HATE any particular band but there are a bunch I fail to listen to.

Steely FCKN Dan....

rouxroux 06-29-2008 05:51 AM

White Stripes
U2
rap
any other "music" that is not performed with actual "talent" being involved. I'd rather listen to John Cage's "4:32" if you know what I mean.:D

Tobra 06-29-2008 06:36 AM

I don't hate much. REM did like one song then careened off into pseudo intellectual self importance, never cared for U2.

I am surprised that anyone could hate Steely Dan. You have to at least respect the technical excellence of those cats. I can see not liking the Beatles, but hating them? Astounding

Just waiting for nostatic to BAN you :). Seriously though, there are several artists listed on this thread as being "hated", that I would almost guarantee that I could find something in ther body of work, play it (for the "hater"), and I'd bet they'd like it. I've got a few thousand cds, listening to music has always been one of my passions (I have NO talent for playing though), but I too can pick single tunes that I'd just as soon never hear again...

sammyg2 06-29-2008 07:23 AM

Seriously, I can't imagine not liking steely dan's music.

I haven't seen Dire straits on anyone's list so far unless I missed it, hard to hate that band. Mark Knopfler is just too good.

t951 06-29-2008 12:03 PM

U2...most over-rated annoying band of ALL time.
Green Day....whiny teenagers
Bruce Springsteen...marketed his America brand well, but terrible...painful to listen to.
Elton John

Actually this grunge crap. We had fun, happy hair band rock, and then these losers come in all depressed with hairy armpitted girls and ruined it.

Tobra 06-29-2008 04:08 PM

I thought of one.

Barbara Striesand, I would go so far as to say I hate her singing.

URY914 06-29-2008 04:20 PM

Billy Joel and Elton John are WAY too over played on the FM stations.

Boston,, every song sounds just like the last one...
Oh Ha Ha, how can anyone not like Bob Seger or the Beatles ?? I mean really ?

Joe Bob 06-29-2008 07:23 PM

Manfred Mann...."Blinded by the Light". I have offered the local radio station $500 if they burn that ******* recording....I can't reach for the knob fast enough. POS is played once a day just to pisssmeoff, the station manager musta lost his cherry or had some mind altering experience with that tune.....

I've actually gone down to the station and pounded on the plexiglass....I'm still banned from the place....

The image of that in my mind had me cracking up! Too funny. :D:D:p

I can't really think of any music I "hate", but there are a few genres that just don't do it for me at all. Country music comes to mind, as does Hip Hop (or whatever it's called these days).
