Does your Wife work?

Mine worked when we first got married until we had kids 16 years ago, the youngest is now 8 so after 16 years she went back to work for the school, she wanted too didn't have too. So why do I feel so useless now? Or should I just go with the feeling?

Mine did until our daughter was born. She's planning on going back when our daughter starts kindergarten. We make it fine on my income alone, so I keep telling her to find something fun to do when she goes back to work...

Yes, she has the most important job in the world. She is the mother to our children full time.

Works her ass off, but not at a paying job...

We figured she could earn enough to pay for extra gas and child care costs, or she could stay home and raise our kids and be a "soccer mom" - but with no soccer. Various dance classes, t-ball, running the house, etc. She even mows our 1.5 acres with a push mower since my riding mower died last year.

God I love her...

Granted, we are getting into some debt doing this, but our youngest will start school full time in August so Carol may start looking for some part time work

Mine worked before the kids.

We used to bank her salary so when we had kids she could be full time stay at home mom and we would not miss the income.

Daughter is going into 3rd and the boy is starting full day K this coming year.

She may go back to work during the time the kids are in school. Something to occupy her time/keep her from getting bored cause when she gets bored she shops.

Before kids, mine was an elementary school teacher. Now with two kids, she works her ass off running the house. With our youngest starting kindergarten, she is going back to teaching part-time in our kids school. It has been an enormous financial sacrifice in that with our kids in private school and me with expensive hobbies, we haven't added very much to our savings. But in all honesty, I think everything in our house just ran smoother having her home, compared to other couples we know who both work. I should also point out, that she often took in a kid or two, part time, for extra spending money.

Heck ya - Mine is a partner / owner in industrial flooring and carpet business. If she wants to work why would you feel useless???? I want mine to make more than me!! I dont buy into that "dont have to work stuff - unless your rich". Especially when you have one that like to shop as much as mine. Then again - so do I!

Umm, yea. I don't honestly see how anyone can survive financially these days without two salaries.

Mine works and makes a lot more than I do. I wish that she did not have to work and could stay home with our son.

Stay at home......once our child(ren) get into preschool she is going back to teach. The math of teachers salary and day care did not quite make sense.

My wife is a pediatric anesthesiologist. I don't work at the moment. I stopped about 10 months ago. I was a senior network engineer in my company and my paychecks looked pretty pathetic next to hers.

I should note that I have done about $100k worth or upgrades to my house in the past 10 months.

It is about making choices. Big house/small house, dine out/eat in, hot dog/lobster etc. Most of my friends and family are single income and doing fine. Lots of stay home moms in my hood and they all seem to be doing fine too.

My wife is a CPA who quit her job the day before our daughter was born 16 years ago. We now have three children: 16, 14 and 12. She has worked her butt off caring for them. She's been the traditional mom with a twist: soccer mom, bake sales, room mother, scout leader, water polo mom, etc., all while doing a little bookkeeping out of the house.

We talk about her going back to work some day though, probably to pay for college.

And with all due respect, Jeff, it is possible to make it work without two salaries. Not easy, maybe, but possible. Living in the I.E. helps, buying a fixer-upper when we were young, living within our means. And so far, they've spent elementary, junior and high school all in private schools.

No one ever gave us anything of material value. Our parents, however, did give us the example of living modestly, staying out of debt, the value of a stay-at-home parent and a good education.

IMHO of course.
