Gun owners - DIY
I remember reading the hateful, thoughtless, vitriolic spew here a while back about guns and it made me think of how small the minds must be who sit and think of all the hate to put through their fingers and send it out into world wide web.
Then today this perfect story presented itself today and I thought now here is a mission for those with their fingers on their triggers waiting for someone to bust into their homes to steal their 29.99 dvd players and pillage their GI Joe collections (still in the boxes mind you). Peering out their windows hoping they catch a glimpse of some hood swiping their 11 mpg 7000lb lawn art and go out there and and... blow them away. JUSTIFIED they would be! But here is a mission, you have the right, the RIGHT as afforded by the second amendment TO BLOW YOUR BRAINS OUT. Lets get this up into the 80 or 90 percentile, 55% of gun deaths are suicide, is that the best you can do? You'll never make it into the Olympics with that success rate! http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/06/30/guns.suicides.ap/index.html

Only two percent were legal killings
- looks like you'll have to stick to paper terrorist targets and all your empty Miller Lite cans!

Do you think that banning all guns would result in one less suicide?
Do you think that those statistics include all of the times a gun was used to prevent a crime without a single shot being fired?

Well if you don't like guns, you may feel perfectly free to ride your seguay in front of an oncoming seattle bus. Guns are but one of many highly effective options for suicide.

I think that close to 90% of rope deaths are by suicide, looks like rope owners have a better success rate at killing themselves with ropes You own a rope?

And here (with this nonsensical rambling) we have a very fine example of the diminished mental capacity that sometimes leads to the unreasonable fear of, and disdain for guns. The late Col. Cooper coined the term "hoplophobe" when referring to such. Little can be done, other than to smile and try and reassure them, assuming they are not too far gone. Alas, nothing can be done to reassure the true believer - it's their fear, and no amount of reason can take it away from them.

You guys are too much. There are gun owners and there there are fanatics. Jeff, I'm surprised at you. Maybe I am wrong, but I don't remember you having such an attitude. I read the article as well. The CDC is a pretty reputable organization.
damage113 has just as much as a right to post as you all do. Dave A California gun owner P.S. How many of you can consistently hit clay pigeons and beer bottles flying through the air? I can.

Damage
You don't want a gun, don't buy one!! Similarly, you don't want a 7,000 pound lawn ornament, don't buy one! Someone wants to blow their own brains out with their own gun, let them! You're and Air Force EOD whatever that is, be one, but don't tell me how to run my life. I certainly don't care what you do for business or recreation, and I frankly don't really care. The problem is people who think THEY know what is good for ME. I think you shouldn't ride your BMW R1100S, because motorcycle riders in accidents sustain much higher injuries and cost me the taxpayer more police and ambulance than those in cars. So how about if I decide what is good for YOU and ban YOUR bike?

I am a little confused by this thread. Aren't you the same person that posted this:
I picked up my P226 in '88 and it ruined me, I always look at Sigs and the quality of other weapons just don't seem to match. After thousands of rounds, its always been dependable. Every time I have to qualify with that beretta I am wishing that I was shooting the sig. If we could carry our own weapons in the military... You start the thread dicussing all of the hateful anti gun posts and drivel that people wirte and post on the web, and then in a bizarre move, you tell people to use theirs guns to commit suicide? What gives? Do you not like Sig's anymore? Have you not shot thousands of rounds through it? Were those thousands of rounds at people, or paper targets and empty beer cans? I am totally lost as to where this thread is going..... ![]() Bill |

Point/Counterpoint..."Jane, You Ignorant Slut":
Gun owners are the happiest people in the US Posted by Mark Frauenfelder, April 21, 2008 2:40 PM | permalink The Wall Street Journal reports that gun-clingers are not, in fact, bitter. According to the 2006 General Social Survey, which has tracked gun ownership since 1973, 34% of American homes have guns in them. This statistic is sure to surprise many people in cities like San Francisco – as it did me when I first encountered it. (Growing up in Seattle, I knew nobody who owned a gun.) Who are all these gun owners? Are they the uneducated poor, left behind? It turns out they have the same level of formal education as nongun owners, on average. Furthermore, they earn 32% more per year than nonowners. Americans with guns are neither a small nor downtrodden group. Nor are they "bitter." In 2006, 36% of gun owners said they were "very happy," while 9% were "not too happy." Meanwhile, only 30% of people without guns were very happy, and 16% were not too happy. In 1996, gun owners spent about 15% less of their time than nonowners feeling "outraged at something somebody had done." It's easy enough in certain precincts to caricature armed Americans as an angry and miserable fringe group. But it just isn't true. The data say that the people in the approximately 40 million American households with guns are generally happier than those people in households that don't have guns. The gun-owning happiness gap exists on both sides of the political aisle. Gun-owning Republicans are more likely than nonowning Republicans to be very happy (46% to 37%). Democrats with guns are slightly likelier than Democrats without guns to be very happy as well (32% to 29%). Similarly, holding income constant, one still finds that gun owners are happiest. And yes, as soon as she gets out of prison, the woman in my avatar will be my wife. Last edited by Danny_Ocean; 06-30-2008 at 07:30 PM.. |
