OT guys! You active in the Tech forums too?

I very much enjoy PPOT. Sadly enough, it brings me a large part of my daily social activities. It also supplies me with a tremendous amount of world news, knowledge and laughter. Even crying. I think you guys that I 'meet' almost every day on OT are terrific. Like real life friends.

I came here on a need to know basis. Had to pick up the basic tech stuff when I got my 911 four years ago. Initially I spent most of the time in the tech forum. The last two years I spend 90% of the time in OT as its fascinating and I donīt have any current problems with my 911.

I thought it interesting how many of you brothers hanging out here most days, also post in the tech forums. Poll form. No explanations or excuses necessary! :D

I also post in the 928 forums, but infrequently, since the car is so reliable, and i rarely need help troubleshooting it's straightforward and quite simple mechanicals.

I also rarely drive it anymore nowaday. 8mpg x $4+ dollars a gallon is a no go for me. Thankfully, i have a garage.

Active but not hyperactive.

sammyg2 07-01-2008 02:24 PM

I used to post over there allot but now it seems every tech question has been asked and answered a hundred times.
If they'd just use the search button ....

My 911 really never needs anything, I read the for sales and parts for sale but havent' bought anything for a year. I drive it everyday and change oil. That's about it.

kstar 07-01-2008 02:36 PM

Since I sold my P-car, not so much.

I'll be back there once I get back in the saddle with a 911. :)

Markus,

My story is the same as yours.

Last month out of curiosity I took a peak.

First few threads were,

Where can I get a cup holder?

Help with 1st valve adjustment?

What size wheels will fit my car?

Rather than reply "Use the search feature" I quietly slithered back down to the cellar.

kstar 07-01-2008 02:40 PM

Another thing; I have read a couple of posts that seemed to imply that participation in the tech threads is somehow a prerequisite to posting in PPOT.

I disagree! :D

Since I DIY, I post & very frequently search & learn. I have saved many man-hours, mucho $$$s & a whole lot of sweat & blood via the advice in Tech area.

Whats a Tech forum?? :p
Once in a while I post on it. My car has pretty much been trouble free since I got it. Plus any problems, I pretty much figured out myself. If I have a tip or some advice for someone, I'll post something.

But otherwise, I'm much happier over here.:)

I know what you mean. Nice post count by the way (4,444).

So have I. Without you guys I could not even afford keeping my 911. Pelican=The Porsche Bible.

My car is pretty much finished. Other than maintenance and the odd repair (it currently needs pedal bushings, a clutch cable and a new battery), my next potential tech issue will be a new transmission with short gears. But I've already decided on the gears, have a lwt. flywheel and know what sort of clutch I'll use, so the tech part has already been realized.

As Sammy says, the stuff over on the tech side has been asked and answered so many times, it gets tedious. The whole SSI vs. pre '75 heat exchangers, or whether to run 7 or 8-inch Fuchs is sort of old hat. I used to think these cars had an infinite level as to what one can learn about them, but in most instances, that seems to not be the case.

Classifieds is fun, but I don't really need, want, nor have anything to sell.

OT is always new and interesting. If at all, the liberal vs. conservative debates continues to give a person new opportunities to make an ass out of themselves, which is always entertaining. :D

Yes, that is a real main stay here and I really feel I miss out on that subject. I suppose you have to be born American in order to be able to really appreciate all the ins and outs of that debate. Its just a lot of words with no discernible meaning to me.

mikester 07-01-2008 03:14 PM

I used to be more active but the 911 has been quite reliable...

slodave 07-01-2008 03:19 PM

More active in the tech forum when my car is under the knife. Mostly in OT. I try and answer questions in the tech section as well.

Dave

Yes, thats what I think too. With a 911 there should not even be a need for a tech forum.

I think it was Vic Elford that was about to start a rally/race somewhere in southern Europe at one time. Porsche had let him have a 911 but they did not supply him with any spare parts, not even extra tires. Upon inquiring about it he got the reply: A Porsche donīt brake.. :D

I rarely dare that. I try to limit my display of personal ignorance to OT. :D
