Last winter we sold our Jeep Grand Cherokee with the Hemi engine and bought a 2002 BMW 325i with the sport package which includes a 5 speed. Just got back from South Dakota, round trip 1240 miles and averaged 28.3 mpg at 75 mph.

I have a 1961 VW Beetle Ragtop sitting in the barn. If someone doesn't buy it soon I am seriously contemplating going full electric with it for around town runs.

Shawn - post some photos of that cool-assed Baja buggy you had. That thing was great. I'd love to drive that to the grocery store.

If a significant number of cars start to run on electric, the pollution from batteries will make people wish for the good old days of oil spills.

If 10% of the nations driver did this we would crash the power grid while trying to protect ourselves from Manbearpig.

This thread had nothing to do with pollution, the power grid, or manpigmanbear.

I enjoyed reading up on manbearpig - sounds like another great episode. And South Park certainly goes quite a bit deeper and wider than fart jokes. The fart joke folks were on that canadian TV show in the south park movie ...

My 73 beetle got around 20 MPG with a 1649cc engine and a 2bbl Weber (the weirdo truck carb where all the adjustments ended up against the fan shroud so it becomes impossible to set the idle)

Picked up an '02 Corolla to keep on the street. Took a short trip last weekend and averaged 65 -70MPH. 158 miles and used 4.259 gallons of gas.. Better than 37 MPG.

I assume that 20 MPH is your average speed that corresponds to that MPG? If so, 16 MPG is no suprise, as you're obviously doing a lot of slow city driving. If I recall correctly, the W210 E420 is rated at 27 HWY, the W210 E320 28 HWY. Hell, my 300 HP E34 540 6-speed could easily get 25 MPG on the highway, and my E36 325i 5-speed routinely was high 20s. Take that MB on the highway, if you're still getting 16 MPG there's something seriously wrong.

Mule's. His only reason for existence these days is to discuss this manbearpig thing with lots of people who could care less what he's mumbling about.

Apparently he's drawn some of you into his Secret Society as well...do you have a special handshake?
