Do you ever dislike people on sight?
Yes. I'm an a55hole. Not denying it.
That being said, do you see someone, and know in an instant that they are not your type? I have a new neighbor across the street. I have watched this guy pile garbage up in his driveway for the past week to be rained on. The crows picking at the broken bags were really charming. Nice view across the street for the 4th of July. Today, he and his son are sitting in the middle of the driveway trying to fix a bicycle. They are both squating like chimps, tool strew all over the place, sockets rolling down the hill into the grass. The guy is struggling against nuts and bolts while sitting down, no leverage. They have been at it for like 2 hours, ocassionally leaving the bike and tools strew around for a while. My daughter and I baked cookies, and took them over to them with a note that had our phone number on it. We missed the parents, but met the kids and their nanny. They have never said hello. Yup. I'm a judgemental, unfriendly SOB. But why is it that I am always right about these things? ![]()

The people I can't stand on site are 1) women who look like men and 2) men who wear those trendy, metrosexual shirts with all the gothic writing and designs on them. Can't stand either of those groups.

I seldom dislike people on sight. I think growing up in the 1960's and 1970's gave me a certain tolerance for people's appearance and sartorial choices.
That said, I often dislike people the moment they open their mouths. Lot of complete dildos out there.

Only those male models you see in magazines. For some reason, I just wanna punch 'em.
for real live humans, no - unless it includes what they are doing when i see them - like a guy who was sniffing my glass of wine the other week ata public tasting - I aroused some fear in him... |

Yes. Pretty much all of them.

But I'm guessing you're not talking about a static view of someone, like a picture. In real time there's a thousand other things that come into play.
From a business point of view, I don't run people off because of their first impression on me but I'll admit to not being as helpful to some as I am to others that are more my kind of people. Jim

For me, it's the "wheeler-dealer" types. Typically from "up North" (cough, New York, cough, cough), drive the leased Escalade, wear expensive clothes, too much cologne, gold bracelet(s) & neck-chains (with the occasional diamond-stud earring thrown in for a "touch of class") and live in expensive (rented) homes. Always talking big..."we're gonna do this and that and the money will be rolling in", etc. ad nauseum.. (They were once stock-broker telemarketers, then jumped on the mortgage broker saleswagon and now are doing "debt consolidation" scams).
They hire me for a job and come time to pay the bill..."Umm, err...I'm a little short right now...I've got some people who owe me money...I'll pay you when they pay", etc.* ****** phony, poseur losers. Every last one of them. * - These types are now required to pay up-front, in full before I start the job. That requirement sends most of them packing. I like to get to know them first. Then after about 5 minutes I hate them.
And your neighbour is a jerk. I hate him too.

Rarely, but recently I have had issues on line....if they rub me the wrong way I think about hunting them down....but the feeling has passed...so far.

Not on sight...gotta witness at least a few words and actions first. I mean, I KNOW I'm one ugly looking old guy...so I try not to base opinions on looks. However...the Amy Winehouse look? Guess it's true...some folks I don't like on first sight.

Every time I judge by looks I'm dead wrong. Example: Go to a drive through ATM near a gas station. Get cash and park my car at the bank so I can run into the gas station to buy a scratch lottery ticket for my brother inlaw's birthday. As I'm preparing to exit the car a really strange looking tall bearded dark haired guy walks close to my car. He was watching me go to the ATM.He's very tall and wearing dark dirty looking clothes. I wait until he passes as my "spidey senses" are tingling and then exit the car and go to buy my lottery ticket. I ask for a $20 ticket and pay the man. End of story....not quite. I stuff the lottery ticket in the birthday card and drive up to NH and have a nice breakfast etc with my family. Bro inlaw scratched ticket and of course doesn't win squat. He shows me the ticket and WTF! It's a $10 ticket! I paid $20. My fault for not looking when I left the store. Now $10 is not a lot of money but I've been out of work since October of last year and every little bit helps. So I stop at the store on my way home to see if the same guy is behind the counter. No such luck and to make matters worse, It's the creepy big guy that was casing me at the ATM behind the counter!
Turns out he is the nicest guy in the world. Very personable and friendly. I explain my situation and he said they would take my phone number and call me at the end of the shift if the till was over $10. I never thought I'd hear from them but sure enough two hours later the guy calls to say my ten bucks is in an envelope in the vault and stop by anytime to pick it up. Wife picked it up today. Nice to know that I can be so wrong. |
