Vigilante Justice in Long Beach

No, I don't know any of the people involved, but for one I say good riddance to just another worthless POS ghetto rat burglar. I wish more citizens had the stones to stand up to, confront and whoop the schit out of trash like this guy. He got what he deserved, IMHO.

Unfortunately, this being Kalifornia (capital of the NewMerica Empire of Pu$$ies) there will likely be a lawsuit filed by the burglar's family and the victim(s) will be sued for everything they have making a bunch of lawyers richer and making the ex-burglar's family rich for a few months until they blow all the money on "bling" and similar stupid crap, then wonder why they're all still stuck in the ghetto. . .

Vigilante justice is still justice. I think these guys deserve medals for helping to make their community stronger, not an indictment or lawsuit, but that's just me. . .

SoCal authorities: Residents hit suspect who died

LONG BEACH, Calif.—An 18-year-old burglary suspect who died in the back seat of a police cruiser over the weekend had been struck in the head with a shotgun by residents who restrained him until officers arrived, authorities said.

Investigators on Tuesday still were trying to determine what killed Deshoun Keyon Torrence of Lake Elsinore.

Officers responding to a burglary call Saturday night found Torrence injured from his struggle with people at the apartment complex, Long Beach police spokeswoman Jackie Bezart said .

"A resident and neighbor used necessary force to restrain him before police arrived," said Ed Winter, chief of investigations for the Los Angeles County coroner's office. Based on initial information, Torrence was "struck by a shotgun butt by a resident and a neighbor," he said.

Torrence also struggled with police, Bezart said, but he was checked by paramedics before being put in the cruiser and was alert and coherent.

Shortly after paramedics left, officers found that Torrence was not breathing, Bezart said. Paramedics returned and pronounced him dead.

An autopsy has been scheduled.

The guy lucked out. If they don't survive, it's tough to sue.

Off Duty NYPD detective got in lots of trouble for shooting a bad guy (in a shootout) while he was "drunk". The standard applied was that for driving at .08 What does having a few beers at a party and confronting an armed criminal have to do with driving anyway?? Only after the public outcry and the press jumping on to the case is this policeman recognized as a hero.

So, did they determine who used the shotgun butt? Seems to me the neighbors ought to just clam up and not say a word.

Yep, just like the gang shootings in the 7-11 parking lot a 3AM with 45 people there - nobody saw nothing

Well, at least this time the folks who did the right thing might not be ratted out. I kinda wonder how much the police will investigate this one. It might get swept under the rug and we'll all be better off for it.

Being Kalifornia, I see everyone getting sued. Citizens, police, paramedics and hell, I'll bet they'll throw in the owner of the apartment complex too.

Didn't Kalifornia have a bill passed that would prevent criminals from filing lawsuits?

Don't know about that, but if it's like all the other common sense legislation that passes (usually by referendum) in this state, it undoubtedly would be contested by the NannyState advocates and overturned in the courts, ruled "unconstitutional" or some such B.S. . .

I've lived in a total of 6 different states in my life and never, ever felt so much like my government literally hated me and wanted to destroy me as an individual as I feel is the case in Kalifornia. It's simply astonishing the extent to which the government goes to destroy personal success and freedom here. Not to mention accountability to the people. Separate thread perhaps. . .

Just a nit-picky pint of clarification, but this was not "vigilante justice". This was "self defense", or possibly more accurately, defense of property. Catching a crook in the act and defending one's self, loved ones, property, or even a complete stranger is not "vigilante justice". Private citizens hunting the perpetrator down, assuming his guilt, and punishing him in some way after the fact is "vigilante justice".

This term gets brandied about all too frequently. It is most often used in an effort to apply a negative connotation to a citizen's actions of lawful self defense. The hand-wringing ninnies among us would have us believe any form of self defense that injures or kills a crook is wrong. That citizens have no right to bring it to that level. That only the police can legally, morally, or ethically injure or kill the bad guys to stop them in the act of committing a crime. "Vigilante justice" is the term de jour, adding a sinister, illegal tinge to the situation. The disingenuous ninnies gobble it up, convinced they should never resort to violence to defend themselves. Balderdash. It's not only our right, it is our responsibility. And it is not "vigilante justice".

Sorry for being so picky. And yes, they used the wrong end of the shotgun. Hope they didn't crack the stock or something.
