Adult Supervision

No, not some of our esteemed colleagues this time. For years I've been saying that USAF has been in desperate need of adult supervision. The latest evidence:

Air farce guys won't even go into a battle zone if the air conditioning isn't working right.

One of my NCOs said to me one day, "Sir, do you know how to tell when it's time to rotate back to CONUS? It's when the 5th Air Force rotation shows up."

Most of the AF only does 4 months in IZ then goes back to the big PX with "war stories." Combat Controllers and "weather" guys are the exceptions.

Yes, and during WWII they were ARMY Air Corps, specifically Signal Corps. Not USAF, which lost its manliness after Vietnam.

I happen to be a fan of the AF, at least the aircrews, PJ's the combat air controllers. They may not be as operationally oriented as the Corps, Navy aircrew and the Army, but when they show up they bring a whole lot to the fight.

It is the AF leadership that has lost all credibility with me. The tanker fiasco is only the tip of the iceberg...wait until the F-16's can't fly anymore, to say nothing of the problems with nukes.

And, frankly, the firing of the former secretary Michael Wynne and chief of staff Gen. Michael Moseley should be just the beginning. There are a whole host of dust bunnies that need to be swept up.

Oh, I can name that VIP package for 5.4

The use of supplemental funds. From the article:

"The Air Force's top leadership sought for three years to spend counterterrorism funds on "comfort capsules" to be installed on military planes that ferry senior officers and civilian leaders around the world, with at least four top generals involved in design details such as the color of the capsules' carpet and leather chairs, according to internal e-mails and budget documents."
