Didja read "The Cobra in the Barn"? Great book about the stories behind "barn-finds".

Very cool thread...a good time waster.
I have a slight dilema, on our hunting lease in Wyoming which we will no longer have at the end of next year there are several "field find" cars--this is spread over 20,000 acres. I have checked out most of them--some are destroyed beyond use and have been bulldozed into trenches/ditches. However there are (5) in particular that are fairly complete. one is a 49-50 Ford coupe, one is a 36-37 Chevy Fleetmaster, (3) are 49-50 Buick Eights. The Buicks are the most complete with straight eights still present, the Ford would be a ***** to get to because it is in a small wooded area and is pretty beat, the Chevy is more or less a shell with glass, bumpers, axles, and is straight and not rusty. The landowners are going to start strip-mining after our lease expires, and more than likely all cars will just end up crushed or buried. Would these cars be worth digging out and towing across the country (back to PA)? The Buicks would be the easiest to get to, but I have seen running/driving cars going for around 5,000 and all of these would need total restos--so I don't know if the value is worth the expense of hauling them home. I will only be out there once more before the lease expires--I don't think ownership is an issue as a corporation owns the land and probably doesn't even know the cars exist. I am just looking for some input.

$5K probably won't pay for a decent paint job, redone chrome and rubber seals, let alone anything else.

I vote to go ahead and haul them out, if only for parts. Wish I could 'adopt' one of them actually. One of the Fords or Buicks would probably be a lot of fun.
If nothing else you could try and sell them on Craigslist with the buyer being the one to haul it out. Old parts are hard to come by and it'd be a shame for more to disappear.

I took this in St. Barths one year. Man, if I had some darkness, and a screwdriver . . . . . (and no moral fiber, of course)

This one hurt me the most, a Miura left to rot. Someone deserves a good thrashing for doing that.
