I'm still using Vonage, and now in two locations.
On the cable modem, it's great. On the DSL modem, it has to be the only bandwidth user or else the call quality gets crappy. But in that location I have a "lite" DSL feed. May not effect a larger feed. I really like the portability, but you need to remember to go online and edit your 911 info when you move the phone.

I have had it a couple of years.
You need bandwidth. Low end DSL was a problem for me. If you were downloading anything it would get choppy sound. Once I got FIOS problem solved. I just set the fail over to the cell phone. The three biggest advantages reasons for Vonage: 1:Voice mail to Email 2:Ring up to (5) numbers at the same time. 3:Take a number to a different area.

I'm using Skype for outgoing phone calls (computer must be ON) and use a basic land line for incoming. I think Vonnage calls can be hooked directly to the DSL line w/o the computer. Emergency calls are still an issue with internet service, yes?
I'm sure there are many pluses and minuses with each. Sorry about the short list - relative newbie re: internet phone service. Sherwood |
