thats too bad about the kitten, but it's not the dogs fault. it's the fault of cat owners that let their cats run loose around the neighborhood pissing and crapping all over everyone elses yards. sometimes they go into the wrong yards and dont make it out. dogs will chase cats, unless they were brought up around cats.

Sad news Mike…all animals are precisous and this is not your fault. (2 dog & 4 cat owner here!)
Growing up (10 years old), I spent the night at a friends house and they had a large Chocolate Lab. I set down with the family for dinner and their dog started scratching at the front screen door wanting in, one of my friends sister gets up and lets the dog in. He comes over to the dinner table and sits there like he is waiting for someone to whing some food his way. Then all of a sudden he starts acting like he is going to puke, the father gets up and tries to race him to the door to let him out, but midway between the dinner table and the front door he pukes up 2 baby kittens. Dinner was off at that point and to this day I vividly remember it and have been a huge animal lover since then.

![]() It's a bummer story, but life isn't perfect. Sometimes bad stuff just happens. It's actually amazing that bad stuff doesn't happen more often, IMO. Animals are animals, no matter how much training they've had. You can see the disastrous results of people not understanding this all the time, from people treating dogs like teddy bears to cat worshipers, etc... Chris Rock had a good take on this re: Siegfried and Roy and the tiger mauling. "People say the tiger 'went crazy'. The tiger didn't 'go crazy', the tiger went tiger. The tiger went crazy when he was riding around on a unicycle w/ a nazi hat on." Your dog does not have "control issues". It's a Golden Retriever, for pete's sake. Hell, you don't even know if it killed the kitten. Kitten might have died from licking anti-freeze off the ground, (or from some other cause), and your dog picked it up and carried it around a little. Stuff happens to outdoor cats. I just saw one that was a road pizza 30 minutes ago 6 blocks away while driving home. Someone lost a pet, it sucks. You're a good man for even feeling bad about it, some people wouldn't give a shake. ![]()

Soo, would you feel the same way if your domesticated, deliberately-taken-out-of-nature cat brought you a dead mouse/bird? Or is that different?

Animal. Say it with me....ANIMAL. They're not little people, they're not your kids. They are ANIMALS. You can't train them out of hundreds of years of instinct. Dogs kill small animals. So do cats. This is life.

My Pit Bull chased a bunny around the yard once and nicked it's ear before releasing it on command. Unfortunately the bunny committed hara kiri. After being chased, he was huffing & puffing. He tried to squeeze back through the fence while still huffing & got locked up in the fence & stroked.

![]() I think its been said before on this thread, Animals do what animals do. It is human arrogance to think we can entirely modify them into litttle humans without voices or opposable thumbs.

It is exceedingly annoying when PEOPLE bring their animals into your yard, and let them crap everywhere. There's a strange lady in our neighborhood that lets her two dogs crap where ever they want. You know the type, the dogs walk her, even if it's into the middle of someone else's yard. Never when I'm outside though, I'm waiting to catch her in the act. I have found a few "deposits" after the fact, not cool when your kids step in it.

You should deliver the nuggets back to her doorstep. Be sure to dump them out of the container you use to transport said nuggets to said doorstep.

No disagreement here that animals do what animals do.
Who is the one with the big brain? Human. Who is the one who is supposedly responsible for the animal? Human. Human say, keel kittun bad. Doggie over dere, kittun over here, no doogie keel kittun. Doggie take dump on lawn, human pick up dump. Human know doggie do whut doggie do, human predict animul behavyoor with beeg human brain. Doggie no drown in lake becuz human know, don't let doggie friend swim out to midul of lake. Accidunts happun, but smart human try not let happun then shrug and go, oops. |

Personally I think it would be more fun to take a dump in her front yard, but that would probably land me in jail.

POP you gotta understand dogs are animals. How do you train a large dog to be gentle with kittens? It's enough of a challenge just trying to keep labs and goldens from eating birds before they retrieve them!

I have a cat with opposable thumbs. Polydactyl, also known as a Hemmingway. Really freaky when they grab stuff and pick it up.

Actually, I do expect cat owners to adhere to the same level of responsibility as dog owners. However, for some reason in my neighborhood, cat owners let their cats roam wild. I keep tabs on my dog when he is outside, making sure he doesn't leave the yard and I expect cat owners do the same--which they invariably don't. They shouldn't be too upset when their "beloved" pet doesn't return home because it has been caught digging in the garbage of a neighbor one too many times and taken to the shelter.
