NASCAR at it's finest

Am pickling some jalapano & Hungarian wax peppers. Figure I'd watch some racing They are having competition yellows every 10-12 laps because of poor tire wear. And still having the 'luckydog'. Unbe*******lieveable.

I missed most of the race...I hear that was because of the surface of the track tearing up the tires. They should just skip that track.

Lucky dog is ghey. I heard it was to keep people from speeding out of the pits, but I think it's dumb.

Wasn't it tire trouble at Indy that helped kill Formula One's appearance in the U.S.?

Yeah, quite a let down. Turned into 15 heat races. Thought I was back at Ascot watching sprint cars.

Indy has a very aggressive racing surface that ate the r/r tires up at 11 laps. Usually the rubber from the tires with adhere to the track and things get better, but not today. Typically at other tracks, the r/f tire will fail first.

They need to spend more time testing with the new car. Wasn't an issue in previous years with the old car.

Yes, I think that was the father's day 05 disaster when they wouldn't run the race without a chicane or something. All the cars with one brand of tires didn't run. Lame.

Dude it is Nascar, need I say anymore. It stopped being racing, and became entertainment, a long time ago. I don't even find it entertaining.

It was the worst race I have ever seen. The driver were apologizing to the fans on how bad it was.

NASCAR is a joke. Champ Car is dead (thank you Tony George). IRL is an even bigger joke than NASCAR (thank you again Tony George). F1 won't be coming back to the U.S. 'cause there's no money here anymore, instead they're going to the mideast and Asia 'cause that's where the money is (oh, and thanks also to Tony George and Max Mosley for your roles in killing the USGP too, I haven't overlooked those).

Basically racing is dead in the U.S. Best we have right now is American LeMans, maybe the Rolex series and Atlantic.

There's still hope for the MotoGP Jeff. Laguna Seca is going OK but remains to be seen if it will draw enough people. And it comes to the brick yard in September. It'll be interesting to see how the motorcycle tires fare there.

ALMS is awesome. All the manufacturers, high tech. Need to do something about GT1 though, that's kinda a joke also.

F1 did not wimp out the drivers did.

6 of the 22 cars raced. If it had been flip flopped and Bridgestone was the problem tire instead of Micheline then only 6 cars would have had to either, pit every 10-15 laps and drive on the banking, or drive down off the banking in the banked turn at a slower speed and then pit normally.

Instead, the 9 teams chose to put on a "big show" and line up then pit on the formation lap making a scene.

Again, if it was only 3 teams and 6 cars that did this everyone would have laughed at them and said "Ha Ha you guys have the crappy tires".

I overheard to guys in the produce section talking about todays race and what a joke it was. I guess pit crews were actually throwing fists over getting more tires because they were running out? That is what I overheard in the grocery store.

Wasn't the situation somewhat different?
It sounds like the NASCAR tires were wearing out, but my understanding with F1 was that the Michelin tires were failing unpredictably due to the unusually high forces and high speeds around the sectio of banking. It's one thing to have to change tires every 10-15 laps because they're wearing out, but quite another to have a tire fail without warning and put you into a concrete wall at 200mph. Basically the F1 teams on Michelin tires were advised by Michelin not to run as they were not confident that the tires would be safe.

Didn't hear of pit crews misbehaving but the supply of tires was running low. I don't recall this being such a big deal in prior races ......errr circular chases. Why was today such a big fuss?

IIRC they were at first blowing out unpredictably. Then once they realized what was happening, they found that tires with less than 15 laps were o.k. over than were showing signs of wear.

They had 2 options, pit every 12 laps or so OR stay off the banking.

Since they were not about to loose to a back marker team they chose to make a big scene then park the cars.

They tried to change a track hours before the race because a tire manufacturer tried to make an advantage that backfire.

No. It was Michelin trouble at Indy that killed the USGP.
