Foods dogs should not eat

Seems like a list of stuff you should keep away from dogs and cats would be a handy thing to have.

Obvious stuff like oleander and horses, dark chocolate and dogs apparently are both mortally bad combos

is there a web site for animals, like doctor.com or webmd, whatever the human one is

Cat turds. I think that's where their bad breath comes from.

I've been told to stay away from corn for our dog (Jack Russell). Corn is used as a cheap filler in most dog food out there, but a lot of dogs are actually allergic to corn. I spend the extra couple of bucks on quality food.

Horses? My parents had a horse slit its achillies heal and was gushing blood as 3 dogs lapped it up from the road. Did seem to hurt them.

My dog got ahold of an entire bag of M&Ms one time. Didn't die, or get sick that we could tell. Used to feed the dogs grapes all of the time, for the entertainment of watching them try to chew them without freaking out.
Corn isn't bad for dogs. That's yuppie BS. All of our animals have been raised on Purina products since puppy/kitten-hood. Zero ill effects.

Some dogs have severe corn allergies...

I laughed when I saw this. Cat turds are a special treat for my dog. He sometimes walks into the room with a guilty look and pieces of cat litter stuck to his face from some fine dining he sneaks in when nobody is watching.

I find it amusing that people so closely dissect their pet's diet. Do you pay that much attention to your own food?

My in-law's lab eats cheap dog food and table scraps. She loves chicken burritos. She also eats whatever critters she catches on their 40 acres, last week it was a snake with a half-eaten rabbit. She also lives outside (gasp!). Overall, she's perfectly healthy. The point? Maybe some of you are a bit too concerned about this stuff.

Call it what you want, but the veterinarians that I have used (that do have a degree in this area of expertise) do say that corn is a common allergy for dogs. I am happy that your dogs have not had any ill effects.

Do you guys cook for your dogs? I know a dog groomer who at the beginning of a week, will buy a whole chicken and a half-quart of rice, and cook that and other meals for her dogs.

She says dog food is "horrible" for dogs. I've always thought dog food has nutrients dogs need.

Most dog and cat food use "animal by products"

Think = what is left over after they make hot dogs.

So, aside from certain foods (chocolate, for ex.), what we eat, Fido and Rover can eat? In a sense, just put another plate on the table?

I would like to do that (for my cats) but I'm just too damn lazy.

I wonder what the cost analysis would be, I imagine one large chicken could feed the cats for at least a week.

Never-mind, the premium no animal by products cat food I buy is around $15 for a bag that lasts a month.

He he... this thread reminds me of when I had a dog and I would run out of dog food. There was a burger king half a block from my house with 99 cent whoppers.
