time for a break

While I hate to be a follower, I'm going to cue off of stomachmonkey's lead and take a break from this place. I certainly value many of you as close friends, and will likely pop up briefly from time to time. But the tone and rancor has become draining and I'm finding that the shrill threads vastly outnumber the fun ones. Obviously I have spent a lot of time around this place over the past 7 years, and because of that and my resulting emotional investment, the ebb and flow here does actually affect me. A quick scan of the front page yields a predominance of Obama this and political that...it's just too much. I've got a thick skin, but sometimes just stepping outside for some fresh air is a better answer.

As always, if you have a problem with a post hit the "report to moderator" button and I'll deal with it (along with Z). But don't expect me to see anything on a day-to-day basis. And you can always get ahold of me by email, pm, or via my nostatic site.

If someone manages to organize either a SoCal gettogether or another Ultimate Pelican Meet, I'm certainly up for that. I think I'd prefer chatting over a beer to seeing the same tripe in text over and over and over...

cheers, and I'm being careful not to let the screen door hit me on the way out

Don't tell me. Let me guess. It's time for the women's beach volleyball competition at the Olympics, right?

See you after the election? Tell ya the truth, I've been thinking of the same, but I'm probably too hooked to quit...so, I just try to limit my exposure to Obama threads...

I'll watch your video's.

Another request.

Antonio Carlos Jobim, 'Double Rainbow'.

Maybe someday I'll come down that way with my trombone and trumpet.

Too bad. Todd always keeps me entertained. Not his job, I suppose.

I've found my own participation lacking. My responses are fewer and decidedly shorter. I guess I'm running out of cyber-energy as well.

I completely understand your frustration. Good luck clearing your head.

On a side note: how does one moderate if not surfing the site? I hope this does not become a free-for-all. The job may be too much for Z-Man by himself.

I haven't been around nearly as long as you todd and Moses, but I do feel my participation waning. It used to be fun on here, now there is just waaaaaay to much politics. Thankfully classes start back up in a week so I will have something else to keep me busy other then PPOT.

We understand....after typing "Obama thread after Obama thread..." over and over, I'd probably be tired as well

Kick back, put on some Looking Glass and chill. See you around!

Sorry to see you go. I just don't even open the Obama, McCain threads, and still wish there could be a political sub forum.

You better still chime in on the Motorcycle threads though. Since I can't switch bikes as much as you, I live vicariously through your bike ADD.

By the way, be careful with your wrists if they are hurting that much after being on the ST2. Therer was someone around here that had long lasting damage due to the buziness of his BMW, and the angle at which is wrists were. Not saying you are weak wristed or anything...

It has gotten tiresome. Politics in general is a depressing subject these days, if you ask me. It can be a real conversational cul-de-sac.

You can always pick your threads and time here a little more judiciously, but it's not fun to open the front page of PPOT and see one troll writing 50% of the headlines, and the Pelican ditto-heads cheering him on. It's definitely taken a dump around here.

I'd quit if I could, believe me.

A sub-forum on politics alone would sure help. I really like Pelican, but find myself looking and reading less and less on off topic because of all the tired political garbage.
