Why can't I stop eating like a pig?

I'm sitting here feeling pretty bloated as I've just polished off half a large veggie pizza by myself. I tell me it's OK since it's veggie but who am I trying to fool? I know what overeating leads to; weight gain and eventually diabetes, yet I can't seem to curb my appetite.

Years ago I used to party like it's 1999. I've hugged the bowl too many times so I've long given up alcohol and ganja. If I could give that up (I loved it by the way, except for the puking part), why can't I stop overeating?

I wonder if anyone has ever tried hypnotism for behavior modification.

I used to eat like a pig. I would not stop unti I hurt a little in my tummy. I burn it off on the bike. Since I got marry, (we eat out 4-5 times a week) I stop riding and starting eating. I put on 35 lbs. I am now a fat fuch. I think just self control. Got to go, my pizza is getting cold.

if you are out at a restaurant, as soon as you get your meal, ask the waitress for a take home container. Take half of your meal and put it in the container and ask her to keep it in the kitchen for you while you eat.

Most effective trick I learned was to drink more water... 5-6 cups a day. You feel full and it's good for you.

I keep telling my wife when I hit 60 I am going to quit exercising and eat like a pig. I'll look like the guy from Monty Python's "Meaning of Life."

Suck it up and grow a pair. If you don't want to over-eat, then don't do it. If you do want to over-eat, don't whine about it. Sheesh.

This is what I tell myself every two or three days.

Over eating actually makes your stomach stretch, which in turn make it harder to satisfy your hunger.

Start eating 6 small meals a day. Within weeks your stomach will shrink down and it will only take a small sandwich to fill you up.

Go walk a couple miles everyday. No need to do anything extreme. Just put on comfortable tennis shoes and walk. Don't push yourself. After months of this, your body will tell you when it wants to go faster/farther. Listen to it.

What are you eating? Is it crap? Seriously look down at what you are eatting. Look at the ingredient list. It DOES NOT MATTER that it is veggie or vegan or free trade organic blah, blah, blah....if the the ingredient list is as long as your arm, don't eat that shXt. Next time you are in the store, look at the ingredient list on Morning Star Farms vegitarian chicken nuggets. Its a riot. Its like 200 ingredients. Your better off eatting a piece of steak with a baked potato and a REAL veg on the side. Its ok to eat crap sometimes, but not ALL the time.

Drink a caffienated coffee or tea based drink that has little or no dairy. Drink nothing with corn syrup in it. Ever.

Sleep.

Oprah would tell you that you eat like a pig because you are "medicating"/compensating for some emotional issue or crisis in your life with food. Personally, I think that's a crock for 99% of over eaters. You just have poor impulse control....like ME!

I eat too much and I know I am 20 lbs (or more) overweight. I CAN stop eating or eat "right" whenever I want. I just don't do it because (apparently) I don't really feel all that bad about my weight most of the time. Drink the water, walk or run, cause they're both good for you. But I don't think they're gonna stop you eating too much. Will power, plain and HARD!

Oh yeah.....SNACK. The advice 'don't snack' is TERRIBLE advice. It causes your blood sugar to crash, then you are starving at your next meal, and you eat like a pig. Dry roasted peanuts and chips/salsa make a good snack.

I agree with the smaller meals and moderate exercise advice. Now if I could just follow it.

Carbs beget carbs, IMO.

Add more protein at each meal or supplement your diet with a whey protein drink. This will, IMO, cut out many food cravings and moderate the quantities at meal time.

Add some 100% psyllium husks as well (mix in water); it's fiber and will make you feel more full and "tune-up" the colon.

And the already recommended daily walk.

I like the above over the brute force, will power angle. YMMV.

I eat 5 small meals a day, really healthy meals, that way I rarely feel starving. When I feel starving, I binge, crash, and need to take a nap.

+1 eat something small often.

I have the same problem where I'm feeling fat, and I don't eat all morning, then eat lunch at 2pm STARVING, feel fat, don't eat dinner, and then binge STARVING at 9pm. Not so good.

Sheeeet Bro....I eat like a pig and have lost 50 big ones on my Buffet Diet....U Boyz who had dinner with me know what I mean, cause ya have seen me pound the food down.....that is why I am the Master Bufferteer. BTW...I do power lifting....the fork from plate to mouth....

Eating assuages anxiety...

Honestly though just keep all Carbs under 100 Grams a day.... U can eat all the meat, cheese and veggies you want....just cut the pasta, bread, rice and potato...and kill the sugar....

I kinda subscribe to the Cave Man diet...men were hunter gathers, and genetically that is what we do best on......meat, berries, nuts...not much in the way of breads...

Just start looking at the list of ingredients and nutritional values posted on packets of food. You will be shocked at what you see in so many products. Processed Sugars and salt...heavy in carbs and fats...Exactly how does one think over 300,000,000 Americans get fed everyday?

I've found exercise is great for killing my appetite. I started bicycling again after a long break, and I've been losing about 1 pound every two weeks.

I second the smaller meals theme. I don't see how folks can manage just 3 meals a day. I adjust portions based on what I'm doing the rest of the day. More work/play = eat more.

Eat a big breakfast, then quit eating when you're full.
