Hell (to the oblivious)

Obama/Biden - good.

From across the river Styx will arise great moaning and wailing of lost souls, oblivious to the winds of change ruffling complacent feathers grown dry and brittle, crumbling into dust falling unheard upon their own ears while the world resonates with newfound hope.

onlycafe 08-23-2008 08:00 PM

how did i know, even before clicking on this, that it would be obama related?

Hugh R 08-23-2008 08:07 PM

He said "Hope".

I asked the same thing after Bing Crosby died.

Hope is great, but without a plan to get somewhere it's sort of like the difference between "luck" and "control" You understand the difference, right?

Given the combined experience and intelligence of these two nominees, I have hope that they will be effective.

And, given McCain's, et al, plan, (which is?), I have no expectations whatsoever but for a continuation of the status quo, which I cannot, with clear conscience, abide.

There's that word again.

Obama is a tug boat: he toes the political line. He has spent his entire career voting how the party bosses have told him. He has not shown an smidgen of independence or leadership...ever. Past experience shows he will be completely lost with any sort of executive authority. (For example, he used his time as president of the Harvard Law Review to publish exactly zero law studies.)

Yet you hope this time will be different. What is it called when the same thing is repeatedly tried and different results are expected?

I feel pity for those who view their workd in black and white.

rouxroux 08-23-2008 09:51 PM

I feel shame for those who use the "for the least of us" line and won't even throw their own half-brother a bone, yet want to "redistribute MY wealth". Sorry, does not fly....

change...hope...change: with the rest of the sheeple.

Yes, I think of him in a term somewhat similar to that. You defend your argument so wisely. Carry on.

Facts? Simple facts. or as B-HO says :"Words, just words".

I will simply argue that BO will raise taxes and redistribute wealth - he has stated so very clearly.

It's not an issue of black and white, it's just Obama's plan - call it what you want.

In principal, I am against this policy.

If he was planning on raising taxes to pay down the debt, I would applaud such a plan although my opinion is that such a plan would fail. But, he will try to raise taxes to spend more money. His opinion is that certain companies make "too much" money - this opinion will "poison the water" and damage the USA.

America needs a dynamic economy with low taxes, new business formation, risk taking and the motivation of profit. "We" also need a simpler tax code and the elimination of tax policy as a means of control and power. Obama is much further away from these principles than McCain.

So, Darisc, tell us the specific things you think Obama will do that will help America.

Best to you,

john70t 08-23-2008 11:32 PM

+1 Kurt, but America also needs to ask China to pretty-please forgive our trade deficit.
What is "hope" when interest on a loan consumes a large percentage of of effort?

Good point, IMO. The US and China need to have a "come to Jesus" meeting and understand that both parties need to be good partners. Maybe I am naive, but I think they need us as much as we need them.

I don't think we need the trade deficit forgiven, China should just open the valve and let us compete in their country as they do in ours. The US remains the world's powerhouse economy in absolute terms even though China sits with a huge trade surplus and a huge national surplus.

I think China just wants to be recognized as a world "player" and the Olympics are an excellent example of their desire to be accepted. I honestly think they are more insecure about their position in the world than many may think. Let's help them succeed and in the process "we" can grow America too. China represents a great opportunity for America.

Sorry if I sound too optimistic and/or idealistic, or even like Obama, but I do believe we need to help China and prop up the US in the process. I also have a simplistic view that the more capitalism pervades China, the better the odds that China eventually has a more free, democratic system than it does now.

Best,

If the ticket was Obama / Osama, these same left wing zombies would be telling you the same, lame stuff.

BeyGon 08-24-2008 05:56 AM

Change-Hype-Change-Hype-Change-Hype, Obama has it all.
