ok. ape-hanger handlebars on harleys. WTF?

anybody ever ride a bike with the above the shoulder handlebars? the bike must handle like crap. you get the full frontal wind blast the entire ride. you cant split lanes with ease... what gives? the style THAT cool? i dont get it.

Hate to break it to you, but Harleys are not typicaly known for their outstanding handling. That is not to say that all Harleys handle like **** nowdays, but the chopper style custom bikes ain't about the handling.

I have also thought that it must "hurt" to have your arms/hands up so high for so long.

While we may think it is ridiculous, there are also people who think it is ridiculous to drive an old sports car with the engine in the back -- they are loud, they do not provide a smooth ride, etc.

To each their own.

I agree. When I see someone riding with handle bars like this, I always think he looks kind of silly (I don't tell them that, mind you).

Those arms come from the needles he sticks in his ass.

ok that bike looks gay.

With regards to ape hangers, I don't get them either. I would think your hands would fall asleep.

Words just can't do this picture justice.

agree 100%. harleys are not handling machines... buy why make them worse? take a bigarse caddy, and run a series of linkages and run the steering wheel out of the headliner. same thing.

that photo of the AHHB must be a photoshop!!! no way!???

I remember an interview with Peter Fonda about Easy Rider, he was saying how damned uncomfortable it was to ride Capt. America. He specifically mentioned the monkey bars.

Who cares how it handles or if your arms fall asleep....it's all about the look. Tricked up Harleys are the low-riders of the bike world....it's all "Hey...look at me, I'm cool".

Wish they could do their grandstanding a little more quietly, though...

I hope that picture is photo shopped, I can't imagine counter-steering something from that position. I would be interested in a ride report from someone with 'normal' apes.
