No, not really. It was a long time ago and even a comprehensive search on the Web turned up next to nothing.

I can tell you that the sculptures were made from fiberglass molds or vacuum formed plastic. I painted with the original "flip flop" paints which were actually finely graded fish scales suspended in a God awful lead solution and then clear lacquer. (No wonder I'm goofy!) Just like RC cars, I painted inside clear plastic in some cases and on the outside in others. The effect was that the piece turned colors as you walked by. Sure, this was being done on the custom car circuit, but the art world had not seen much of it, so it was novel to them.

And, of course, the shape of the sculpture had a lot to do with it. I did not design anything, just executed what I was directed to do. I was pretty damn good with a spray gun moving from one set of colors to another within a single panel.

You can't get the original materials anymore because of the lead. It was called Murano pigment and came in about 4 different shades that flipped to an oposite color on the color wheel. Fun stuff.

They sound pretty interesting. A little like Sigmar Polke meets , well meets Milt the mechanic.

If you did sell them all, maybe right there is your answer - do some more.
I'll even bet there are less toxic materials out there you could use - but I like the idea of toxic art - (as does Polke)

I think you missed the part about me working for someone else. And, no, she didn't sell any because she wasn't doing it for the money. This was a very rich hobby artist that I enabled to do what she did because of the physical limitations and lack of technical skills to make molds and parts. But she sanded and applied bondo quite well. I did the gel coats, etc.

Some of the art made it to shows and displays, but I suspect it's all private now. There was a daughter, a pediatrician, up in the Bay area. She's gotta be in her 70's now.

I could do more, but I'd be ripping the old lady off unless I found a new twist.

A while back I realized that I'm a one 911 guy. Absolutely no desire to keep acquiring and working on a variety of cars. Tried lutherie, cabinet making, remodeling and all manner of craft work. Kind of burnt on all of it now myself.
Keep your favorite to buzz around in when the mood suits and keep searching for your next adventure.

You realize there is no such thing as "ripping off" someone else's stuff in the art world.
Or rather it is all out there for anyone who wants to/can use it.
Of course if you merely copy a style or technique it will be obvious and not be of much value artistically - even if many "artists" lacking imagination have made careers off others styles.

If you make it your's it IS your's - and EVERY great artist used the techniques of those who came before.

Don't let that hold you back.
You, as a true car guy , and skilled with the tools have every right to use what you learned from her as she used your skills to flesh out her ideas.
You have to start somewhere and where you end up is only where you take it.
