When our GE cordless died about a year ago, I did a fair amount of research online... including reading customer reviews of different manufacturers' phones on sites like Amazon, and ended up buying a Panasonic, and it's been great.

I have a Uniden cordless. It works great, no problems, and it must be 100 years old (maybe not 100, but many, many years old).

My cell phone gets really crappy reception in my house.

I like my land line. When we had a minor earthquake a few weeks back all the cell circuits were "busy" for a couple hours. Land lines had zero problems, and all calls went right through.

We have both uniden and panasonic cordless phones, and both work great. The Panasonic is 9 years old, and still going strong. I replaced the battery about 4-5 years ago.

Panasonic. No others in my house. I really like a corded phone. It never drops calls and it always there. I have them in the office and various places in the house like the bathroom hidden in a resess box in the wall. I am with Milt, if clients call when I am home, I will usually call back on my land line. The one with a cord.

Buy yourself a Bang & Olufsen. It will last you years, transmission is crystal clear, they look better than any other phone out there, and they're cheap as chips in the US.

I never knew B&O made phones!

We have a set of Unidens, it's ok, but I wouldn't buy again. We don't have the traditional land line, but Vonage instead. Our land line was often over $100/mo with long distance, Vonage is the same $30/mo, every month. Good quality and reliable.

I guess it's SoCal then. Really, beyond the delay, I just don't get the clarity that some of you apparently do. Most of the time the transmission is clipped and parts of words or even sentences are missing.

On another tone, I still use a corded phone in my office for privacy .
