Angry Not Happy! Ike hitting Houston and I'm out of the Country

I just checked the airlines. Even if I leave now, the earliest flight I can get is Friday, and it is likely to be canceled, since it lands 4:30PM on Friday. Houston should be getting TS force winds by then.

I'm pissed, and not in the english way.

I'm pissed and I'm in Houston. After Rita, I said I wouldn't leave if it was a Cat 3 or less. It looks like I'm about to eat my words. We live in evacuation zone B so I have a feeling the wife will insist we leave.

That's far worse than being there. Do you have a wife/kids?

Is there still a decent chance that it'll track back to the south?

All of us to the South have been wishing it would track North..... :-)
Don't wish a hurricane on anyone but they very unfortuantely insist on making landfall somewhere.

I'm in San Fran leaving at noon, supposed to be home by 6pm tonight. I'm about 1/4 mile from being in evacuation zone C, but actually in B. My wife is refusing to leave, so I have to get home. I hope this makes a left or hard right before it gets to Houston.

Red-Beard, wow, that does suck assuming you have family in Houston. I feel for you.

No doubt! It's no fun on the dirty side of the storm. During Katrina New Orleans got the flooding but Miss. is the one that really got hammered.

When we lived in San Antonio we kept our sailboat at Watergate Marina in Clear Lake for about a year before moving it to Corpus. Not sure which place is worse if a major hurricane hits ?? House is about 5 miles inland but only 16 ft above sea level.

Wife and 2 Elderly parents, who moved to Houston so I could help them!

The parents and the neighbors across the street are moving into our house for the duration, since we have the Generator. I had to walk my dad through how to start the generator. Thank-goodness Gustav happened, since it put Margarita and I through the regular preparedness drill. Wife and dad need to get Gasoline for the Generator, in case power is knocked out for a few days.

We're in Northwest, so no flooding issues. I just feel I should be home putting the plywood on the windows, turning the house into the bunker...

I have a house in San Antonio. While it's been good for me to see the track go to the east I realize that it puts a whole lot more people in harm's way. What's it supposed to make landfall as?

Current prediction is somewhere between a strong 2 and minimal 4. Minimal 4 being an oxymoron...
When it was projected to land near Corpus they were predicting SAntonio / Austin area to get up 10-20 inches of rain.

Latest projections ( 4 PM) show Ike heading straight to Houston with Galveston in the NE quadrant.... really bad news if your in that area unless it keeps moving east.

We're still at the house keeping an eye on things. We're at the edge of zone B and shouldn't have any significant flooding so we're just worried about the wind. We'll probably watch it until early in the morning and then head to Austin if it looks like it'll hit west or right on top of us.

David = be careful with the storm surge - and I believe the storm surge from this storm will be much worse than the wind damage - as evidence of the effects it has had on other areas of the gulf - despite being 100's of miles away.

Not something to monkey around with

Per the map, if you are in the NE quadrant a Cat 3 will probably flood all of the Clear Lake area. A generalization for sure for something to be aware of.
