Was this gaffe the one that killed the campaign?
Obama: 'Lipstick on a pig'
mie Parnes reports from Lebanon, VA: Obama poked fun of McCain and Palin's new "change" mantra. "You can put lipstick on a pig," he said as the crowd cheered. "It's still a pig." "You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change. It's still gonna stink." "We've had enough of the same old thing." The crowd apparently took the "lipstick" line as a reference to Palin, who described the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull in a single word: "lipstick." I'm serious, someone needs to print a gaffe-a-day calendar. I thought the old adage was "perfume on a pig".

They are now denying that he was refering to Palin.
Sorry Barry, after what you guys have been doing to her this past week and a half, nothing you and your keepers say has any credibility whatsoever. Too bad.

If the last 10 seconds of that clip is not in a Republican TV ad by tomorrow, they are letting their guard down.

Lipstick on A Trainwreck
Jennifer Rubin The latest mega gaffe comes directly from Barack Obama’s lips. ABC news reports: You know, you can put lipstick on a pig,” Obama said, “but it’s still a pig.” The crowd rose and applauded, some of them no doubt thinking he may have been alluding to Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s ad lib during her vice presidential nomination acceptance speech last week, “What’s the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull? Lipstick.” “You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called ‘change,’” Obama continued, “it’s still gonna stink after eight years. “We’ve had enough of the same old thing! It’s time to bring about real change to Washington. And that’s the choice you’ve got in this election.” Obama added that “it is not going to be easy … John McCain has a compelling biography, you know Sarah Palin is an interesting story.” The crowd booed. “No, she’s new!” Obama said. “She hasn’t been on the scene, you know, she’s got five kids and my hat goes off to anybody who’s looking after five. I’ve got two and they tire Michelle and me out!” The entire exchange is of course deeply offensive and disrespectful, treating his opponent’s running mate as a sexualized object and a mere mother, to put it bluntly. I can’t imagine there is any Democratic woman — forget the Republicans and Independents — who isn’t embarrassed. Obama appears to be crumbling under pressure, reduced to swinging away at the person who has supplanted him as the political star of the Election. http://www.commentarymagazine.com/blogs/index.php/rubin/28911

"Healthcare poliss-ah, education poliss-ah, tax poliss-ah..." He's as bad as Hillary. Sounds like Eric Cartman. Seriously though. Hey Libs, listen up. This guy, the One, is proof that there is a God, and that God is a Republican. This man is your comeuppance for ALL THE RAFT OF !@#$ you people gave us about Dan Quayle.

Well, the "Old Fish" could mean McCain, as well. So, he is insulting the other side.

Lipstick is always how I heard it.
Man, politics is mean beyond being useful. Someone who may say the difference between Sarah and a pit bull with lipstick is just sick mean. Frankly I don't give a dump about which "team" gets in office. I wouldn't have picked any of them by a wide margin. The fact that we don't have the best people running for POTUS is the real problem. Let them argue about the pig and the dog. All morons. Really, it's morons who follow this schit like this. Let it go and go to a city counsel meeting or something. Do fricking something besides analyzing every damn sound bite. |

Do any of you folks have any interest in IDEAS? Any interest in actual ISSUES? I don't mean an interest in the concept of issues -- I mean in the substance of issues themselves.
Reading the comments above just reinforces what the Internet has increasingly made clear: Many of you -- most, even -- engage with politics as a soap opera. You're all bound up in the personalities and stories. These people are all CHARACTERS to you. The campaigns are storylines. And you're infatuated with it all, breathlessly caught up in the latest twists, excited about where the plot will take us next. None of it seems to be about actual policy. Yes, you reference ideology, but only in a contextual sense -- the way a "Sopranos" fan might reference the backdrop of personality traits that makes such-and-such character be such-and-such way. That's it. You're ruining politics. You're ruining American governance. For God's sake, you're too caught up in PEOPLE. Try arguing about IDEAS and PREMISES for a while, and quit being so enraptured with the surface drama of all this stuff. (I found this posted in a comment section) |

O's campaign is built upon tying McCain to W and then saying they'll come in and change everything. But McCain is out there with his own change campaign. That's blunting O's message. Just like Clinton did in '92 and '96 when he started co-opting Bush 41 and Dole's messages. It's pretty effective. And McCain has enough credibility as a "maverick" to pull it off.
I keep getting these emails from the Obama campaign telling me how McCain voted with Bush's position 90% of the time. Well, in the senate, most votes are overwhelmingly one-sided, so that's not really that unusual. I bet Biden and Obama also voted with Bush's position a majority of the time.
