It IS cough syrup! You buy it at the pharmacies in Germany! Some wise American moneymaker started importing it, slapping a new label on it, and selling it as "hip German liquor" and made a fortune.

That ends your "Booze Lesson" for today. Back to stupid people dying on an island.

We have first Onshore Carnage!

A hotel just lost the siding over 3 stories in Clearlake! WooHoo!! We've had a few 40+ mph gusts so far, but that's it

Just in from drinking beer with neighbors, no rain, pretty gusty winds. The wait continues, it will be a long nite.

BORED!!

I'm getting tired, we have *maybe* 45mpg gusts every now and then, and the neighbor has a few people over and is blasting G'n'R loud enough that my walls are rattling from HIM more than from IKE!

Natures gonna do it soon...very soon...power is dropping left and right, they've basically told us that EVERYONE in the Houston metro area should expect to go dark before the night's over.

No problem man! I dunno where the other posters went (some might have gone to bed, some might be dark right now) but I'm far enough inland that I'll just see lots and lots and lots and lots or rain and 6 or 7 hours of 70-80mph winds

If you are fortunate enough to escape any real wind or flood damage, the real misery for many in East TX will start the the A/C's go off and and the reality is they may not come on again for many days. The heat/humidity and mosquitos can get brutal this time of year on the gulf coast.

In '83, Alicia took out our power for well over a week. That storm hit after many days of soaking rain, so the ground was soft and the hurricane "liberated" many trees from the ground.

After a couple of days of excruciating heat and humidity, my Dad rented a big-a** generator and we made it through with some semblance of comfort. The generator's power output was not precisely regulated, so as the motor's RPM's varied, the lights in our house would subtly brighten and dim like the Haunted Mansion at Disneyworld.

Hope you guys are hanging in there!

Mr Bradshaw, while you are out snapping photos, don't forget you got the other side of the eye wall will be comin' along presently, and a 100 mph breeze is liable to snatch your narrow ass up in the air like Dorothy's house in Kansas

If you have 4 jack stands, you might want to stick the P car up in the air, depending where it is parked, those bayous can come up fast.

Trippy seeing water to the top of the sea wall in Galveston, bet there are going to be a lot of bare concrete slabs around there by Monday. High tide is supposed to coincide with the surge, up to 30 feet is what the last thing on the weather channel said. What do you suppose a 20' wave would do if it hit one of those houses on stilts in Surfside, you know crested the roof? Stayed in one of those places for a week about 10 years ago.

Speaking of Kansas, you boys up there best be filling some sand bags, this storm will be kicking your asses presently

Rain is starting to fall here, and the wind is increasing (still variable, but getting more 5-10 second gusts up to 50mph).

Somehow, we still are getting a good signal from our HDTV and rabbit ears. I figured we would have lost the signal by now (the towers are South of us, through the bulk of the storm).

I'm going to bed for a few hours. Everyone local, enjoy the ride. Everyone else, we'll see you on the flip side.

Power still on, though not much longer. Galveston is gonna be in bad shape, probably east tx and west la also. I'm a weather dude so this storm has been fascinating. I feel for those that will lose so much.
Gusts above 50 and we are just getting started.
