what is your favorite sandwich/soup combo?

i dont know what it is, but tomato soup with a grill cheese sandwich is KING!

nice sourdough some gruyere cheese, and a roasted tomato soup...damn. i made it for dinner last night. it may be my ultimate comfort food.

+glass of wine, salad if i want to go uptown.

Yes, that was a basic from childhood - and I still eat it. But mine is the plainer version. Campbell's Tomato soup (use milk not water) & grilled cheese with Velveeta (the King of Cheese Foods).

I love the good ole tomato soup and grilled cheese as well. Grilled ham and cheese if I'm feeling risque.

The SO likes Tuna Salad and Broccoli Cheddar soup together. That I don't understand.

tough choice - Clear Clam Chowda with a Smoked Salmon sandwich on white with mayo or a Baglona with lettice and mayo on white with chicken noodle soup, then again Tomato soup with Fritos floating in it and a grilled cheese sandwich is darn good as well.

Assuming Chili is classified as a soup. It's hard to beat a bowl of hot and spicy chili on a cool day and a very fresh hotdog bun sandwiched around a steamed Kosher dog! I like to have a few bites of the dog plain at first to savor the flavor and then start dipping into the way too hot to eat chili. I prefer to moderate the amount of chili and juice on the dog as opposed to pouring the chili over the dog which turns the bun into mush.

I'm getting hungry.

I'm gonna hear eeewwww, but every so often I make Cambell's tomato soup (with only milk, of course) and then dunk my bologna sandwich right into the bowl. The sandwich can only have butter and/or a little ketchup. Definitely no mustard. I like mustard, but not made for dunking. Did I mention it has to be Oscar Meyer Beef bologna?

My mother made the best potato soup ever and I never thought to get the recipe before she passed. Like most moms, the food came from the heart, not a recipe card.

I love a good clam chowder too, sometimes with a pile saltine crackers mixed in.

Grilled sharp cheddar cheese on dark russian rye with clam chowder. I used to be a strict kraft american w/ Campbells tomato (milk) soup. I guess my tastes have changed.

I've often wondered if defective taste buds are inherited or merely the result of years of gustatory abuse.

lol! It started in the pre-abuse taste bud years so it must be a little heredity and mostly learned. Blame goes on my 7 years older brother. I just idolized him as a kid and did what he did. Suppose it's an acquired taste.

Tall glass stuffed with chocolate cake with hard fudge frosting and top it with ice cold milk. Eat with spoon. Can't make this stuff up!

Being constantly told, by a wicked older sister, to stop washing our food down, this was a way to get it done without breaking etiquette.

Being as your a Doc, I'm sure you'll agree that the evidence will show it all gets mixed together eventually.

Yup! I once took a friend to an OUTSTANDING mexican restaurant. He couldn't eat it because all the food was "touching". He didn't want enchilada sauce and melted cheese running into his rice and beans. Oh well...

cottage cheese and pumpkin bread! j/k. That would severely ruin my reputation.

+1

Never, ever liked tomato soup. I enjoy the sourdough/american combination as well, but the cheddar/rye combo is much more "comfort" food to me.

Staying gluten free has made it something of a challenge to enjoy the grilled cheese/tomato soup combination that I've always loved.

Really the only bread that works well for this is GF "sandwich bread", so ryes or sourdoughs are out.

My wife hit upon the great combo of grilled provolone and tomato bisque. Yummy!

French onion with the swiss cheese melted on top with a club sandwich

Pulled pork with tortilla soup is pretty tough to beat too
