I haven't been around here very long (my 4,000+ post count is hyper-bogus), but my experience has been that whenever a genuine discussion was attempted it quickly deteriorated into adolescent (and oft times just plain mean and vicious) rants and name calling by a handful of chronically truculent malcontents who have no respect for others.

But hey, these internet forums comprise a slice of life and that's to be expected I guess.

thx Wayne

Yeah, you should see the crap they're discussing right now:

"Do Republicans deserved to be punished?"
"1st Church of Palintology"
"Dems Abandon Gun Owners"
"Nazi Pelosi Pulls Her Head out of her ****"
"McCain's Judgement"

They're doing a fine job of soiling their new sandbox. SmileWavy

Ditto!

I also find it hard to say PPOT continued as a place of "free thought." When, as one poster put it, 15 of the top OT threads were politically-themed and posted by 5 people, I can understand how one can come to a conclusion that "free thought" was seriously lacking in large part on PPOT.

Sounds like a bunch of lazy (non political) posters. ...Nonposters who want to be entertained by threads of boobies which are always on page one.

What did I miss? A political thread that went completely over board? Or Wayne just getting tired in general of the constant complaints and commotion?

A sub forum i probably a good thing, but the need for it is pretty revealing of the primitive human nature. Sad and amusing simultaneously.

Yup, out of touch...

Well mark me down as a supporter of this move. There were a handful of folks who buried us in rants with nothing really new. For some of these people, every post was an excuse to post political crap, even the sympathy threads.

Amen brother!

Dave L 09-15-2008 07:22 AM

great improvement, thanks Wayne

kach22i 09-15-2008 09:15 AM

Someone had to wade though and choose the threads to go into the other section, glad it was not me.

My hats off to this decision, I think this will improve things.

Agreed; seems improved already.

I like it...I can jet into the political/religious fray at will and then return to the quiet storm.

legion 09-15-2008 11:10 AM

Will we get banned if we try to discuss the political or religious implications of something that didn't start out on one of those topics?

nostatic 09-15-2008 11:15 AM

Just use some common sense (I know that is a stretch for PPOT). The p&r forum is for the no-holds-barred discussions and rants that are overtly political and/or religious. The main PPOT is for everything else. If something veers into p&r here and gets reported or is seen by a mod it will be moved. Repeated overt p&r posts here could result in being sent to the penalty box. Those that complained of the "thin skinned" and who relish the rancor now have a sandbox. Pooping here won't be tolerated.

I am reminded...

ARTHUR: How do you do, good lady. I am Arthur, King of the Britons.
Who's castle is that?
WOMAN: King of the who?
ARTHUR: The Britons.
WOMAN: Who are the Britons?
ARTHUR: Well, we all are. we're all Britons and I am your king.
WOMAN: I didn't know we had a king. I thought we were an autonomous
collective.
DENNIS: You're fooling yourself. We're living in a dictatorship.
A self-perpetuating autocracy in which the working classes--
WOMAN: Oh there you go, bringing class into it again.
DENNIS: That's what it's all about if only people would--
ARTHUR: Please, please good people. I am in haste. Who lives
in that castle?
WOMAN: No one live there.
ARTHUR: Then who is your lord?
WOMAN: We don't have a lord.
ARTHUR: What?
DENNIS: I told you. We're an anarcho-syndicalist commune. We take
it in turns to act as a sort of executive officer for the week.
ARTHUR: Yes.
DENNIS: But all the decision of that officer have to be ratified
at a special biweekly meeting.
ARTHUR: Yes, I see.
DENNIS: By a simple majority in the case of purely internal affairs,--
ARTHUR: Be quiet!
DENNIS: --but by a two-thirds majority in the case of more--
ARTHUR: Be quiet! I order you to be quiet!
WOMAN: Order, eh -- who does he think he is?
ARTHUR: I am your king!
WOMAN: Well, I didn't vote for you.
ARTHUR: You don't vote for kings.
WOMAN: Well, 'ow did you become king then?
ARTHUR: The Lady of the Lake,
[angels sing]
her arm clad in the purest shimmering samite, held aloft Excalibur
from the bosom of the water signifying by Divine Providence that I,
Arthur, was to carry Excalibur.
[singing stops]
That is why I am your king!
DENNIS: Listen -- strange women lying in ponds distributing swords
is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power
derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical
aquatic ceremony.
ARTHUR: Be quiet!
DENNIS: Well you can't expect to wield supreme executive power
just 'cause some watery tart threw a sword at you!
ARTHUR: Shut up!
DENNIS: I mean, if I went around sayin' I was an empereror just
because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me they'd
put me away!
ARTHUR: Shut up! Will you shut up!
DENNIS: Ah, now we see the violence inherent in the system.
ARTHUR: Shut up!
DENNIS: Oh! Come and see the violence inherent in the system!
HELP! HELP! I'm being repressed!
ARTHUR: Bloody peasant!
DENNIS: Oh, what a give away. Did you here that, did you here that,
eh? That's what I'm on about -- did you see him repressing me,
you saw it didn't you?
