Ducati Clutch System Goodness...need install help

the M/C on my 900 went out last week, talked with BCM in Laconia and went with a Yoyodyne upgrade on the slave and new tank style Brembo master and a Spiegler braided line.

No instructions of course. Anyone install this system?

Sort of Denis, sure. it's taken me a lot of time to know pretty much all the ins and outs of early 911s, was just hoping to accelerate that a bit on the bike. never know on even the simplest of operations.

turns out I need a new choke mechanism and now have to strip the bar.

slave went on in 2 minutes, that was a no-brainer.

thanks Greg, will take it off and bleed. Turns out the little erector set holder for the reservoir is missing.

also not sure why I got sent a gray handle with gold body, doesn't fit the look of the bike. do you know if they also come in all black like the coffin style set-up?

Todd, this bike is the spiritual reincarnation of my 84 Targa. Anything part in a system breaks, the entire system is replaced with an upgrade. that car was the best I'd ever had. Sometimes wish I had sold the E instead.

Other than not being able to ride as much as I would like (been dog busy anyway recently), I'm pretty happy about making the bike new/better.

Would love to get Thom to vacuum bag a carbon fiber faring this winter!

Good advice. MC systems can be extremely aggravating to bleed, I guess because of the tiny piston(?) pushing the fluid compared to a car.

made a little Al bracket, put the system together, bled it several times after bench bled and the handle is rock hard, can't depress. Pulled the slave off and slight pressure on the handle actuates the piston, which goes back in against the spring nicely.

do you think I still have air in the line? thoughts?

may try putting the old slave back on and seeing what it does later today.

Mystery solved. Talked with Fred at Yoyodyne...super nice guy. We went through it and then while he's scratching his head, he asked me how long the clutch pushrod is...2-3 inches I tell him.

it's supposed to be about a foot he says. must have snapped and jammed in the bike.

Yeah, good luck with that. It seized somehow, never seen one do that, but you ought to be able to drive it out somehow.

Thanks Greg, just got back from a victory ride. Clutch rod came out easily enough, and so did the needle bearing in about 10 pieces. got a new bearing, new seal, started putting it back together when I noticed the shear pin is gone.

you know you're addicted when you drive an hour and a half to get a 50 cent shear pin for the clutch basket and collar, with the 4Runner, now a $15 shear pin. But it's all back together, the Yoyodyne is a sweet upgrade. Man, I love this bike!!!

I'm tellin' ya, mine has reframed my riding for me. Other than a week long multi-state trip on the Road King, the Duc is all I have ridden since I bought it. Just an amazing machine, after 30 years and 300k+ miles exclusively on Harleys. I'm literally relearning to ride. And having a blast...

Jeff, I've had it for 2 months now but haven't ridden it that much, only 500 miles or so, mostly due to working my butt off getting my fall production out the door, but also cleaning up what 2 PO's ago did to the bike.

can you do me a favor? what does the gap between the choke and the multiswitch look like? it is perfectly straight? can you feel the detents in the choke?

This bike was down on the left side but the bar looks straight. I've got a brand new multiswitch, choke control and handle-M/C installed. the multiswitch is located by a pin in a hole in the bar, the choke is located by 2 screws that go into the M/C body. On mine, the choke is skewed a little so that it hits the switch when opened up and it's not a healthy feeling, just super snug that cancels out the detent feeling. I'm thinking I need a new left side bar.

what does yours look like, feel like?

Even though I'm a total noob, I know what you mean. the Honda I started out on you had to drive. This bike is all about feel. it reminds me a lot of my rowing days where even pushing tiny amounts of weight around in a boat had significant consequences.

every time I get on I'm instantly in a better place, much like my old 84 Targa.

Sorry Shaun, the PO removed the entire choke mechanism on the handlebar when he installed the 41mm FCR's. My bike has no cold start enrichment of any kind. I just have to hold the throttle off the stop until it warms up enough to keep running.
