The GENIUS of Al Davis.
During the offseason, Al Davis signed little known defensive tackle Tommy Kelly to the richest contract in the NFL for a defensive lineman: $50.5 million for seven years. A large portion guaranteed.
Who is Tommy Kelly? Tommy has never been a standout. Never been to a Pro-Bowl. Never lead the team in any defensive category. Also, Tommy Kelly had a torn ACL repaired during the offseason. Apparently Al saw something that escaped the rest of the league. At Kellys present rate of production, he is averaging $270,000 per tackle. Wow! ![]()

Can anyone "take" the Raiders from Al? Is he the sole owner?

He had to replace Warren Sapp didn't he?
As a defecto from the Raider Nation, it's time for Al to be embalmed. He's lost it.

All my family is from the Bay Area...the fault line in the family has always run along the line of 'Niners versus the Raiders. The City folks versus East Bay.
I'm a 49'er's fan, have been since I knew football...this weekend my Uncle called (long time Raiders fan, who used to take me to Raiders games in the '70's, early 80's, still has season tickets) and he is apoplectic. I had to talk him off the stoop. I never thought Al could empty the positive well of Raiders fans, but for the love of second and short, he has managed to do it. I was, of course, very cautious, and never mentioned O'Sullivan...never called Al, "O'Davis", or "O'Lane Kiffin", or the fans, "O'Raiders Nation". That would have been unseemly. ![]()

A friend asked me what I thought about Jamarcus Russell. I thought for a minute then told him I figured he'd be a big star someday, but probably not for the Raiders. Sad.

Al Davis has become Hugh Hefner with a football team. And, frankly, I want the Raiders to be great, right up to the second they lose to the 'Niners in the Superbowl. The NFL was built in large part around the Raiders.

He helped build the AFL and was behind the business plan that had the AFL sign the most prominent college stars before the NFL could draft them.
He was the driving force behind the AFL/NFL merger.

Al also ripped off Irwindale, CA for $10 million. Anyone remember the "Raider Crater"?

I'll bet he gets some money back on the deal, sorta like I can get "cash back" if I buy a car.

My favorite NFL team for the past 15 years or so is whoever is playing against the raiders.
Around here the raiders fans are typically the ultimate example of low-life punks. Within 6 miles of my house I know of three pizza parlors or sports bars that will not show a raider game on TV no matter what because of the drugs, fights, and trouble that shows up with the raiders fans. If by some freak chance the raiders ever got into another Superbowl, these places would refuse to show it on their big screens. I have no use for raider fans. Most of the ones I've met are wanna be gangstas or pretend bad boys who wanna be tough. The kind of guys who own pit bulls because it means they are bad but they never show any attention to the dogs at all. |

Al Davis jumped the shark approximately 25 years ago.... but... compare him to William Clay Ford...and Al is a freaking Messiah with his 3 SB wins.

The Lions took a long-overdue step in the right direction today by unloading Matt Millen. At least they are a quality-GM-hire away from possibly getting back on the right path. That's cause for hope. Unfortunately for Raiders fans, that isn't possible. There really doesn't appear to be any hope on the horizon - not until the guy at the top "moves on".
