The coolest wine 'cork' you'll see all day.

Picked up a nice (really, really tasty) bottle of Syrah (2006 Columbia River) last night from a winery called Syncline.

Check out the cork! Its a glass stopper with a thin clear rubber washer that locks it down. I tried it out on a couple empty bottles, and it fit them perfectly. Nifty.

That looks like a Vino-Lok.

In general, the engineered glass stoppers require a matching bottle to achieve their seal. There's still a lot of debate on the amount of O2 ingress on manufactured closures. If you want to be scared about cork, read "To Cork or Not to Cork". It reads like a horror movie.

I have a technique that makes a cork or any "engineered stopper" obsolete.

How about Russian vodka with a peel-off, non-reusable cap?

I discovered this on a trip to Moscow in the '80s. This capping convention for vodka bottles speaks for an entire culture, IMHO.

edit: Sheesh, that image displayed LARGE!
