I was only half kidding. My parents were both from farming families in ND. Both of their families were very large and I had 32 aunts/uncles. Most of them farmed ND at one time or another and could easily be considered peasant farmers. Sure some had a few bucks, but the subsidies didn't exist then like they do now. We joked that our extended family owned about 20% of the state in 1965 and it wasn't worth much.
