Affordable Mattresses?

Several years ago we spent something like $600 on a Sealy queen mattress set, I think they were marked down from $800 or so. The damn thing is already sagging in the middle. Horray for back pain! Short of spending something like $2k on a Select Comfort, are there any good brands in the $600 price range for a queen?

And no, the wife and I aren't that fat.

I have been sleeping on a Select Comfort for 8 years or so. Very pleased. My children now have them as well.
You can get into their basic model for about the price of a similar conventional mattress.

Where they get you is in the foundation (plastic box) and the pillow top options.
The thicker the pillow top the pricier the mattress. You can use a cheap springless foundation in lieu of their expensive box (which is very nice, just not necessary). You don't need all the digital remotes either since it is basically set and forget.

Original matress Factory, if they are in your area. Excellent quality, great pricing, good company.

I'm not sure what brand mine is however it was a hand me down (parents remodeled guest room) so I'm sure it wasn't expensive. I got a generic 3" memory foam pad for it ($150) that makes it feel like a $2000 mattress.

Dunno, but read to my surprise recently that the life of a mattress is only 5 or 6 years.

Bought a top name pricey mattress 3 yrs ago (can't remember the brand) at a good sale price (the kind you can't flip over, just rotate 180 deg.) and the sales person said it'll take a set to one's body, they all do. It did. Not a pbroblem thus far but if it progresses at the same rate for another 3 yrs it'll be new matress time.

Trick is finding a mistress matress that hasn't been used.

Threesomes will cause a mattress to sag, from what I hear.

I would think a $600 matress would only last a few years. We have a Simmons Beauty Rest and I don't remember the model, but it was the one before the top model and it has been the best damn matress we've ever had. After several years of baby making, sleeps as well as it did from the first day. We paid about $1300.

Maybe for rich folk, but if you want a good deal, you gotta go with used; the more used the better. In fact, I've found ones on the side of the road that were just thrown away.

There is a huge mark-up on mattresses (furniture in general)...and mistresses too if they are firm and feel good.

I've never bought a mattress w/out going to at least a couple of stores and getting a few hundred dollars off...."because that's what the other store is willing to do." I think I got $400 off a Sealy king set a year ago.

Sealy is the best mattress I've ever bought. As a matter of fact, I bought a $350 Sealy queen mattress when I graduated from college and started to sleep on something that didn't have an F U and a TON in its name. That mattress was great for my back. When I moved, I gave it to my parents and they loved it....and are still using it. It's been 0ver 10 years.

So you can get a good mattress for $600 or less.

Ditched my Select comfort, and I sleep much better, with less back pain. Firm mattress, without the 'pillow tops' is the key.

We have a Sterns&Foster. Overpriced piece of crap. The Seally prior to it really sucked. I'm going back to a Kingsdown when I purchase the next mattress.

IMO, Good+ mattresses are $1K and over (discounted). I think a good brand to me may turn into a bad one for you (i.e., your body vs. my body require different stuff).

Whatever you end up doing, choose well and don't be a tight wad as.....

1/3 of your life will be spent in bed.

I am still young and a tiger......I spend more than 1/3 of my life (not alone) in bed.

i have a 2k bed. it is called cambridge something. it has three "CCC" on the corners. i have had it for 11 years, and it is rated for 16.

i bought it as contraband (long story).

i think it is the one piece of furniture you spend 1/3 of your life on. get the best. people spend big bucks on sofas and stuff. buy a great bed instead.
