If these guys could beat boxers in boxing, why don't they become pro boxers and make the real $$? ![]() Poor old Ray Mercer was washed-up years before that spectacle. Are you saying that you think that Mercer could still get in the ring w/ a current HW contender? ![]() And no, college wrestlers are not "wusses". Far from it. That is a real sport. FWIW, I know Tyson pretty well and I think that his days of humiliating himself are over. I hope so, anyways. Getting involved with that garbage "sport" would be just that. ![]()

Yeah, you're right. In that video I can see it, maybe it was a hard karate strike w/ his back/shoulder braced against the post behind him. In the other video I saw, it just looked like homey took a dive.

+1 Denis!
Ray Mercer..lol...ok...so...so if I'm understanding correctly, Kimbo taking out a washed up Mercer is proof of Kimbo being able to whoop on a 20yr old Mike Tyson? You can't be serious. Have you *watched* any of Tyson's fights in his prime? I can't believe anyone would try and make the argument that boxing isn't technical. Not a technical sport? It's almost ALL technique! I watched Tyson stand his ground with an incoming uppercut, and at the last (split) second launch a vicious left hook AROUND the incoming uppercut, to knock the guy out. Those MMA hacks can hardly even LAND most of their punches. It's all submission this and that, which brings me to my next point... My roommates opined that "all you'd have to do is take out Tyson's legs and it'd be over." Oh, really? Gee is that it? And in the mean time, whilst you're trying to get his legs out from under him (good luck with that), how do you keep him from disconnecting your neck bone with his right hand? Nothing like trivializing a hard problem... "Tyson wouldn't have that luxury in an alley"? How much harder and faster do you think Tyson would be WITHOUT those 20oz gloves on? And you do realize he grew up doing exactly that...fighting in alleys? Anyone who thinks Tyson's fighting background does not include street fighting is quite mistaken; indeed it is exactly his intimate knowledge of street fighting and fighting in general that made him such a great boxer (in addition to other natural gifts). Boxers don't go to MMA because they don't want to take multi-million dollar pay cuts. Tyson won $300,000,000 boxing. How much do those MMA guys make? You can even be generous and over-exaggerate ![]() Quote:

And FWIW, Tyson has said publicly his days of fighting are over, saying something to the affect that he "just doesn't have the fighting guts anymore." Many have, in fact, opined that he didn't have the want to fight even while he was fighting, and his biting Holifield's ear was a way out of it all.
Don't his antics outside the ring, and the unfortunate ending of his career fool you.

speeder, I never said boxing wasn't technical, just that MMA is more technical. The skills required to be a good MMA fighter are far beyond that of a boxer. anyone who follows MMA knows that a one-dimensional (read stand-up, or ground fighter) rarely dominates. That's what makes MMA so much more impressive than boxing, and why the money will soon eclipse boxing, if it hasn't already done so.
The fact that even the greatest boxers don't even try to get in the cage is proof enough that it's way too tough for their skill level.
