Funny mid-1970s TV car ads on YouTube
I was born in 1974, so I don't remember these...but did people actually watch these commercials back then without laughing out loud? Thank goodness we survived the "neo-classic" look. What a horrible time to be into cars:
1975 Cordoba: "I know my own needs": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIL3fbGbU2o 1975 Charger: "You'll love the change we made" Yeah...much better than '68-71 Charger. ![]() http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52F2cey7h08 1975 Mercury Cougar: Is that really farrah fawcett? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vv9_Qs3P9zU 1979 Plymouth Volare "Vooooooo...LaaaRay" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLTIQg_bjFI 1979 Datsun 280ZX Just in case you thought only Detroit had cheesy commercials...this one tops them all "Black Gold!" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWF-hH1nloo |

The datsun one is great, the guy and the gal are kissing, then it quickly switches to the ignition being "turned on" and the stickshift being grabbed.

As for the Ricardo Montalban commercial and his "Corinthian leather" (vinyl) it was a joke even then. As a hispanic, I had never heard a word on a commercial pronunoced in Spanish so "Corthoba" sounded hilarious to me except that it was correct. Just sounded funny then. P.S. If you kept your cars nice in those days (and I always have) they rusted. Bubbles started to form around window trim, emblems, etc. Cars SUCKED in the mid/late 70's.

Oh, I forgot to mention, Jennifer O'Neill! For you younger guys, go rent the movie, "The Summer of '42". Talk about, "... eating a mile of her **** just to see where it came from". I will always get a thrill out of that woman.
NOTHING was hotter than Farrah in her day. She was too perfect for words. That hair is almost comical now but in those days and on that poster which was SO revealing (in those day), she was God's gift to men.

I was glued to our B&W set as a latchkey kid in the 60's. I can identify about 20 different cigarette slogans and songs from the era. Probably not a coincidence I smoked for 30 years.
Check out the cigarette ads to find out which brands doctors prefer. Oh, and some brands are actually good for you! ... too funny. |

Remember this little "care-free car"? Care free so long as you don't mind the gas tank exploding if you get rear-ended!
