Most Accurate Pistol
What is the most accurate target pistol you have ever owned?
Not combat accurate or hunting accurate or plinking accurate, but paper-punching accurate. When you were doing your job, how accurate was it - I'm looking for some sort of measure, like "3/4" groups at 25 yds" or "five shots in a dime space at 50 feet". I keep thinking about buying a full-on target pistol, like a Hammerli or similar. Leaning toward a .22LR, to save money on ammo. Unless you guys tell me that standard .22LR will shoot terribly from a target gun.

Ruger Mark II w/ target sigts.
The inaccuracy comes from the operator.

One more vote for the Mk II - if *I* have to be the one that owns it.
Most accurate I've held? Well, right now the shop I list auctions for has a Hammereli Trailslide up... here's the factory target. 5 shots at 25 meters. ![]() Auction URL if any of y'all want to bid - http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=112351754 jyl - just noticed you may be in Cali... if you'd like to bid, I'll get Mike to waive the "no cali sales" clause and ship it to ya...

I have only played with a few guns but when I fired my friends .357 Colt Python it was pretty gosh darn accurate... and real gosh darn purty... and a lot of gosh darn fun to shoot.
And they are awfully gosh darn expensive!

For local shoots I have:
S & W Model 41 .22 S & W Model 52 .38 auto Both target guns. Both will shoot better than you can hold, offhand.

Thompson Center Contender in .357 Herret. It would put the whole magazine into one .357" dia. hole.

I've shot a Ruger Mk 2(?), it was nice enough. But it wasn't a target model.
Have also shot a SW model 52, it was so nice. I'd put one at 2 o'clock, the owner who was spotting would tell me "down and left" and the next one would go right where it was meant to. Such a controllable gun. But I want a low-hassle, inexpensive to shoot gun - and 32 wadcutter seems neither - I'm willing to spend money up front. The Hammerli Trailside looks very nice. I live in Oregon now. I will watch the auction.

++ I have the bull barrel model, bought in 1984. It shoots like a dream. I do a lot of "practical" shooting with it and I'm the one responsible for any inaccuracy.

Another vote for the Mk 2. My Ruger Super Single Six is pretty damn accurate also.

gun mfgs. are frantically trying to get rid of inventories prior to election. NOW is the time to purchase.
im sure a hammerli will become a fereign evil assault weapon. if they can make a ******* remington 11-87 and a ruger 10/22 in to black evil assault weapons..................... ANYTHING IMPORTED or DOMESTIC is up fer grabs if the wrong peoples is elected. |

Another Ruger Mk. II - mine with a Clark's Match bull barrel made from a Walther blank. 6 1/4" w/ brake & compensator, match trigger, upgraded pins/bushings, Bo-mars, and a great "Smithin" by Clarks.

Most accurate: FAS 602. I could keep five shots offhand in a sub two inch group at 25 yards. The pistol was capable of much better than that but I wasn't. I'm guessing that from a ransome rest it would have had all five shots touching. Nowadays I use a classic Hammerli 208 for target shooting. It's almost as accurate but I think it has a higher cool factor

If you can try a Feinwerkbau P56 Olympic air pistol or a Hammerli FP-60 falling-block in .22 and report back... simply amazing
