Going to Tuscany in a few weeks, Lancia Musa

I rented a diesel Lancia to cruise Italy for a few weeks.
Has anyone seen or driven one?
This is what they call a "Green" Mid sized vehicle

Spring for an Alfa. Its very difficult to get a petrol engine, but the TD is pretty good.

Italy, especially Tuscany and Umbria have some of best quality, least crowded drivers roads you will find, ever. Tarmac rally stages as far as the eye can see. Gorges, mountains, lakes, tunnels- all excellent qulaity roads. Theyve been at it some time apparently.

And the Italians are, seemingly all, excellent drivers.

You need a proper Italian car. Enjoy.

I think it's a Seinfeld thing .

A little off topic but last night I came home to a bill from Avis/Italy .

Looks like I got a photo radar ticket , not auto-strada but surface street .

Just a heads up , it's all about $$$ ( don't have a euro key ) . Don't even know yet how much the Polizia want .

The good news is that the euro is down somewhat from July .

Have fun but watch for parked vans .

SxS

PS +1 on the Alfa TD .

This is an economy trip. The wife is an ex Flight Attendant ($40.00)
Friends place to stay is free Just paying for food, car and vino.
Staying at Lake Como for a few days, that will be a few bucks, but all and all, may be a few grand for 2 weeks plus in Italy.
My first time, cant wait

Stay at the Villa d'Este on Lake Como and you can spend that "few grand" in a day or two. Ask me now I know.

Northern Italy is one of my favorite places on Earth.

Have fun!

Best,

I too have a ticket from our last trip to Italy. Not sure if it for speeding or what.

Should I pay it?

Which one? I see 159's on the rental sites. Are they any good? I'm leaning towards a megane convert but it's 60% more.

Tuscany is stunning.

San Gimignano, Volterra, Monterriggioni, Pisa and Sienna are jewels not to be missed - look them up on the net if you need to be convinced, the roads are small, undulating and would be wonderful on a motorbike, providing you could have the skills to make it round the corners.
Dont miss Florence either. Cool town.

Montevettolini is where we are staying, so day trips are in order.
Thanks for the tips

Here are my choices on AutoEurope. I might rent via Avis since AutoEurope often books through them anyway. May 27 - June 6. Catania, Sicily - Palermo, Sicily.

I know the 3 series is a hoot but for those $s I'd probably opt for the Megane.

From experience the Alfa 159s drive very nicely and are generally a great place to be. Renaults are an acquired taste, I can see the appeal of having a convertible for driving around Tuscany but personally I don't like Renault interiors (a sea of plasticky weirdness!) and the way certain features work, their electronic parking brakes are just annoying.

The Renault for comparison...

Thanks, Steve. We rented a Peugeot 407 clam top in southern Spain several years ago & it was a great car. Of course, it was so hot by noon every day that I had to be top up. We're going earlier in the year for this trip but the same might be true. And $600 might be better spent on wine & other frivolities. And of course, my wife would prefer a hardtop so the 159 might be the answer.

Whatever your taste- and we all love 911s- so we all love to drive. Make sure you rent a car that will allow you enjoy the wonderful B and C roads. Be sure to get off the autostradas and into the hills . There are roads there that we mostly only imagine.

So dont take a pissy little eco diesel and dont worry about speeding fines. Italians dont.

Rented an Alfa 159 estate (wagon) for two weeks last year. Nice car, handled pretty well, I liked it.
