What constituents a genius

In reading AOL this morning, I see an interesting a reference in regards the top ten geniuses alive today. Some on the list are 'real' whereas others are truly laughable. Apparently, genius had joined the ranks of artist... where nothing has to actually exist in order to be considered one. To me, the word 'genius' and 'artist' actually have mean something.

I doubt many geniuses subscribe to other peoples' lists of opinions, for one thing.

Even fewer use AOL.

Heck, with the Internet, everyone has become a genius!

When I see what the media presents as "genius" these days (including descriptions of Einstein as an example of a genius), I think of Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead.

Those telling us who the "geniuses" are today seem to have read The Fountainhead. They understand the arch-villain's behavior in that novel; they understand that greatness is not destroyed by an outright attack against it, but by enshrining mediocrity.

Just remember, that if you want to say a genius is someone who scores high on an IQ test, it's entirely possible that artists and political satirists could be geniuses. Geniuses don't necessarily have to direct their intellect towards math and/or science.

I suspect that if everyone were tested, we would find genius in some very unlikely places.

Spell check wouldn't have helped. "Constituents" is spell correctly. It's just used incorrectly.

THat list is preposterous. Ranking Stephen Hawing with a guy who championed the use of concrete strictly for decorative purposes? Gimmee a break.

Pretty much par for the course in our time of "self-esteem" over achievement though. Not to say that artists can't be geniuses. Bach, Monet, etc.. certainly were geniuses but c'mon now...

Technically I think geniuses have an IQ of 130+. Ive also heard 150 and 170 so it might depend on who you ask. I have no idea what my IQ is.

That AOL list is political correctness at it's worst. Who would care what AOL says anyway???

I'd throw my son in the pile of geniuses. His IQ was tested at 148 and he is scary. Even at 18 years old it is obvious he is operating at a whole different level than most people.

some have defined one aspect of genius by sheer volume of thought.
